OBD Sensor wont read

Ok, I checked around and I didnt find an answer regarding diagnosing my check engine light on 2000 Civic Cp.

I went to 2 autozone stores and they could not pull out a read from their scanners. I also went to another shop and it would not read.

SO I read that the ECU may be bad and therefore, wont read. So my friend replaced my ECU with his temporary, checked it out, scanned it once more.

It wont read. What could cause this, does it mean that there's something wrong with the wiring? How do I fix this, do I have to pull out the whole dash? Let me know, thanks.

Re: OBD Sensor wont read

usually its the ecu, but if you swapped in a working one, then it has to be the obdII port wiring. try and trace it back as best you can and look for any broken wire.

Re: OBD Sensor wont read

You will have to trace the wiring from the DLC to the ecu. Check all the wiring and see if they are good. Or you could just check with the multimeter by checking the voltage of the DLC. Most likely you will need to replace the DLC.

Ok they scanned it with the DLC that is just hanging there. Is it supposed to plug into somewhere(when not scanning)? I thought (whoever owned it previously) some1 might have changed it up and the working primary DLC is plugged in somewhere... no? I have no knowledge of this thing so sorry if my questions are pain in da ***. Thanks for the info!

should be under your dashboard, but can't even imagine why there would be 2...
anyway, Did you check your wiring? Before going into What if's, i mean? not really meaning to be harsh, but first things first...

The DLC is the thing you plug the code reader up to, its under the dash on the drivers side. The wiring on the DLC is either bad or you will need to replace it.

Alright update: SO I had a family friend who is a mechanic (Not Honda specified, general mech... anyways) and he assumes the engine in my civic was swapped out with an earlier year (im pretty sure its a (d16Y7) in my 2000 Civic DX.

What should I do from here? Im superrr broke, got a ticket for no registration because I never passed emissions that will allow me to get dam registered. .. . Gotta love it.

Sorry for the late response, but Im sure he didnt go through the trouble. Is it possible for a stock ecu to not connect with the swap, therefore not reading? (im going to ask him to check the wiring nevertheless)

Re: OBD Sensor wont read

Hello, I assume that I have the same incomunication problem between scanner / ECU.
How can I check if there is any cut wire on the DLC wiring?

Thanks
