Restore headlights using toothpaste

Hey, I decided today, after reading up on using toothpaste to restore your headlights, that I would try it for myself on my 2001 civic ex. I made a video of the pics I took, also including what you will need and the steps in order to restore the lights. Just wanted to share in case some might be skeptical as I was.. but they turned out pretty good! Hope ya like the video.. and if have any questions of how I did it or whatever, feel free to ask me

here is the video link to youtube so you can see what I did:

Seems a lot faster than the sandpaper/buffer method, but not as perfect results

toothpaste is basically rubbing compound for your teeth i would pick up a cheap bottle of turtle rubbing compound before i used toothpaste you'll get much better results.

i agree that buying any of the compounds, or kits, or restoration this or that would be better for them, but i just did this to see if it was actually true. not sayin its perfect. but if you dont have much $ and ur lights look crappy, this will definetly clean em up a bit.

Would you get better results if you rinsed them off with Listerine?

Re: Restore headlights using toothpaste

Just did it to my car. The difference was very noticeable, but the end result is OK. Could be better, but for free and toothpaste it's pretty impressive.
I'm changing my headlights anyway cuz theyre way overdue. (One is all bubly inside, and all the amber reflectors have faded to a **** yellow)

I just thought I'd try it and make them look a little nicer for a wedding this Sunday Can't roll up with hazey eyes now can I?

I'll be trying this out some time next week probably. I've got one headlight with a slight haze.. not too bad but it's worth a shot.

Re: Restore headlights using toothpaste

4 out of 5 dentists recommend this. one recommends you stop being a cheap azz and buy real rubbing compound.

Re: Restore headlights using toothpaste

Soooooo I tried this today. I followed the steps... and rubbed it till it was going away. I used an old sock.

Nothing changed! I even took pictures but when I realized that nothing at all improved, I didn't even feel like uploading them anymore haha.

Guess I needed the toothpaste with the stripes and not the plain white one lol

Yeah, next time u run out of toothpaste, just grab some that has like the gritty texture, and it should work better.. it did for me anyways..
