Hi everyone, I have a 2008 honda civic coupe for about 2 years now. I just noticed that couple weeks ago when I turn off my engine for about 8 hours or leave engine off over night, the car shakes and makes noise when I put on reverse the next morning (reverse only, drive is fine). And then after I drive for about 10 minutes, I park and put on reverse again, that symptom is gone.
Does anyone know what's wrong with it? I took it to the dealer and they said it's the engine mount but I don't think that's what make the car shake. If that's true, the car should keep on shaking the whole time, not just the first 10 minutes. Please give me some advices. I really appreciated.
Thanks!!!

its possible, the engine and trans share the same mount. my auto used to do the same thing when the front mount was busted. engines usually move more before warming up, then the idle drops and they are less prone to shifting around. the front mount on these cars breaks very easily. and by break i dont mean the whole thing falls apart, just one rubber segment gets torn and it allows more engine movement than one with two segments.

Thanks Gearbox! How hard is it if I'd like to replace it myself because the dealer ask me for about $328 total, part and labor. That is a high number to me.
Thanks!

Ya its probably a bad mount. You can go to a salvage yard and find one for cheap and install it yourself its not hard or you can get some energy suspension motor mounts and insert them into the mounts. The energy mounts are 20 dollars.

theres a diy for the 7thgen here someone posted that should help, if you have a jack, some basic tools, a breaker bar/pipe, and a small piece of wood, you should be able to do it. i dont know much about cars and i was able to do it in the garage in less than an hour. i actually used the ES motor mount inserts (just for the front) to repair the oem mount so i didnt even need a new part. the ES part has a tiny bit more vibration, but the engine is much more responsive and smooth to shift gears.
