Resetting the Oil Life thing

Hi all,

I took my car to a place (not a dealer) to get the oil changed a few months ago and obivously they didn't slip whatever switch or press whatever button needed to be done to reset the Oil Life. Now, when the car starts, it's giving me all these warning that I've only got 15% oil life (1200 miles on an oil change=15%? doubt it. ). Is there a way I can reset that so the car doesn't flip out?

Thanks!
Tim

bah, nevermind. Should've gone down a few more results in Google. Via jdmuniverse.com forum:

Make sure the oil life indicator percentage is displayed.

Hold down the Reset button until the display starts blinking. Then let go of the button and push it down again and hold it until the display goes back to 100%.

hold down reset buton for five seconds, then it will blink, then release the reset button and hold it donw again for ten seconds.

be careful now, your oil viscosity bmeter is off since it was changed a while ago. your oil is not at 100% and you will want to get it changed sooner then it tells you

True, but should I really go the nearly 8000 miles it let me go before this reset before changing my oil? Seems like you should be changing it a lot soon than it tells you anyway. 3k-5k miles, right?

i dont care who you are, i dont care what car you have, and i dont care what kind of oil you use... change your oil every 3k miles!!!! no matter what
i dont even care what honda tells you to do! my subaru maintainance schedule tells me to change my oil every 7500 miles... i always changed at 3 normally but this time i went to 5 maybe almost 6 because i have no time... and my motor spun 2 bearings!!!!!!! and subaru is refusing to fix it because they say that my oil was too dirty to not change and it was in the fine print somewhere that if it's not gold colored, change it no matter the mileage

The MANUAL says that the oil percentage life is based on several variables the computer collects:

Total revolutions of the engine (MOST IMPORTANT)
How aggressive you drive
and Driving conditions such as weather and temperature

You can never change oil too much. If you plan on keeping it for the long haul, I personally wouldnt go more than 5k on synthetic and 3k on conventional.
New technology be dammed...Thats the way Ive always done it, and Im not changing now!
