normally, all doors unlock when this feature is used.. if they dont, ask your dealer because they should... there is actually a fuse that controlls this.. so maybe they can check that for you

Auto or Manual trans?

There is a difference in the programming of auto lock features between the automatic tranny and the manual. Not that this solves your problem (or explains how mine works), but my passengers were never trapped in my manual. I kept the factory settings on my LX Coupe (they ARE programmable on the Auto).
I do often travel with my briefcase on the passenger seat which seems to disable the passenger side airbag. It may also have an effect on the locks whether the artificially intelligent Civic (like KITT) thinks there is someone there. Just a thought... It may be that it only unlocks if it thinks the seat is occupied.

well, from my manual, the descriptions say its only for the driver's side, i guess i will need to talk to the dealer and see

i was just wondering if this was just a problem for me or for everyone....

i guess this is random, depending on need per person

The automatic door unlock feature is only effective for the drivers door. The passenger doors must be manually unlocked either electronically via the driver's door button or manually via the lock tab located on each passenger door.

I asked the dealer about this when I bought mine. She said that somewhere in the manual it explains how to change this. It's one on those, "turn the key to the on position, pull on your right ear, stand on your left foot, jump up and down 6.5 times in 3 seconds", kind of thing. Honestly I find it hugely annoying that every time I go to get something out of the pass. door it's locked. Unfortunately I only remember when I'm cussing the door out for being locked. If I finally remember to look into this I will post the gymnastics that I'm sure need to be preformed for the door to unlock with the drivers.

I know you can have service do it if you take it in for maintenance and the like.

Good Luck -
J

06EXcoupe...i think the dealer was talking only about the DRIVER's door unlock feature, you cannot program ALL doors to be unlocked automatically

Furthermore, on the manual transmission, there is no programming since there is no Park gear.

But is it "programmable"?

The auto lock/unlock works, but have you programmed the functions to behave differently? I haven't read the manual since it was fine with me the way it is, rarely having a passenger. I will look this weekend.

oh snap the doors do work!!! lol, yea 06EXCOUPE was right there's a really long way to get the setting you want, and everything is explained in the manual...the instructions for an 'auto, doors lock when shift out of park' are as follows;
1)turn key into II position
2)turn on parking break
3)push the locking button down and hold down for 5 seconds
4)turn car off

This should work, i might be missing one step, but everything is outlined in the book so read it!! I didn't read anything about an auto unlock feature b/c that would kick *** but maybe it has it....

ummm, i think i might be reading this wrong or missing a few posts

but i think originally, it should be about the function to unlock all the doors either

ignition switch
shift to parking

*locking was never an issue

but thx for the info from everyone who contributed

Re: Unlock all doors???

yeah it's in the manual, i remember reading about it but i decided not to do it because it could be a safety issue at times...i also thought about disabling auto unlock completely because sometimes you might just be sitting in a parking lot not ready to get out yet, when your door is thrown open and your getting carjacked. shitty, huh

Re: Unlock all doors???

That's why you program it to unlock when you pull the key, not when you park. ;-) I programmed my wife's civic to unlock on the driver's side when she moves the key out of Ignition II and to lock when she moves it out of park. My quickstart manual states something about ignition autolock but doesn't give instructions on it.

Re: Unlock all doors???

My wifes Accord Hybrid does that and we tried it on the 08 Civic EX.
Nothing so I don't believe the Civic has the Cadillac features of the Accord in that aspect.
