Re: P1456? loose gas cap??

Hmm.. well I sure don't know why the check engine light keeps coming back, but I had a similar problem.
Right when I got my car, within 1 week, I had a check engine light on. So after I noticed it, I then took it to the dealer and they were telling me when I go and pump fuel into my car, that I had to turn the gas cap until you hear it click 3 times. They reseted the check engine light.
After that, I followed their instructions and it never came back on.

Re: P1456? loose gas cap??

ive had the same problem with my k-swap forever now. i had an aftermarket gas cap, thought it was that, so i bought an OEM gas cap from the dealer, reset the code, always comes back on. i'm gonna take the whole EVAP system out here soon then just wait til I have k-pro and disable OBDII functions.

Re: P1456? loose gas cap??

there is some kind of leak in the system. maybe even a bad seal around the tank/fill hole.

Re: P1456? loose gas cap??

if it isnt the gas cap, something else is letting out the gas tank pressure. a line could be busted or loose, the vent solenoid could be stuck open (depending on what code it is) or the vapor canister could be leaking. the system should be smoked or pressure tested to find the leak. There is an EVAP service port marked with a green tag near the throttle body. a shop connects a smoke machine or pressure tester to that port while a technician searches or listens for signs of leakage. There really isnt one part you can change to make the light go away. and youre only getting the code when the monitor runs, which explains the delay between reseting and the MIL setting. i think if you drive around with less than 1/3 of a tank of gas all the time, it wont ever run, but you dont want to do that forever.

this sounds a little rediculous but we had a problem with that at my old dealership... you could have spiders in your EVAP Canister... NO EFFIN LIE MAN

omg you just totally turned me off from trying to fix it. i'd rather have a CEL than having to deal with some nasty spiders.

Re: P1456? loose gas cap??

well wen i reset the light it lasts me about 2-3 days b4 it actually comes bak on. i went twice already to autozone to get the code read and they tell me its P1456. so i dunno wat the hell is going on. i mean i still get an avg of 370 miles to the tank 65% highway/35% city.

Re: P1456? loose gas cap??

yeah, it honestly means nothing and won't affect performance or gas mileage. mine has been on for years now. the only downfall is that if your CEL actually comes on for something else, you won't know unless there is another vital sign. not a problem for me because i am meticulous about my car and it doesnt get driven often anyway.

Re: P1456? loose gas cap??

I have a 98 Civic that's giving the same code. Once the gas cap is tightened, does the computer have to be reset, or will the CEL go off by itself?
