Yes you are - it's a freaking automatic - the car just downshifts to give you the extra speed you are feeling - you want the car to go as fast as it can? duct tape the pedal to the floor and try not to hit anything on your way down the freeway

the best time to shift is when the car say to u, "would u like me to shift now" then u say, "No, wait till 9000 rpms"
it says, " u f*ckin moron ull blow ur engine, ill just shift whenever i feel like it"

Um... As far as I know you're all wrong. You can shift in an automatic. It's a valid question, but you can't do it the way you described. You put it in D2 and hit the gas. Then you wait till you hear it shift to the second gear. Then you wait till you're at a certain rpm and you shift it to D3. This will force the automatic transmition not to shift earlier (if in fact it does so, I don't know). Anyway, I think you want to shift as high as you can. Try near the 6,800rpm cut-off point. That way you'll be in maximum power curve for most of the time when shifting.

Granted, Grey, but the 7th Gen's don't have a D2, only a 2, which means it stays in second. I apoligize if you knew that. But I suppose you could put it in D3, start running, then go to 2, stay in 2 till you wanna shift to third, then go to D3, and then you just tell me to shut up.

its good to just press the pedal to the floor until you get to your desired speed, that way it will shift at 094430981asa90u rpms and give more horsepower

shoulda got a 5speed

i agree, should have gotten the 5-speed. even if you ruined a clutch while you were learning on it (which you probably wouldnt have, our cars are easy to learn on), you still would have spent less than an auto costs

Ummm you morons...why the hell are you flaming a guy for a valid question....You can feel the car change gears in auto. Although this control over the car is obviously no where near a manual, you still have some control when the car changes gear at which RPM.

For a good launch.......I would say start in D3. Push the brake pedal down all the way. Rev the car around 3-4k RPM. Let go of the brake.

Redline the first gear and than put it into D2.
Redline the 2nd gear and than put it into D3.
Now there a few things you can do here now, the shift point is all preference, since I don't know where the max power is in 3rd, I normally just let go of the gas and let the car shift around 5.5-6k

Hope that helps. Don't worry, I kinda regret not buying manual too, but it's better than learning manual on a new car. Besides, you could always trade it in since Manual is about 1k less MMRSP, or change the transmission to a manual later. Can someone confirm if changing a tranny to manual from auto will work exactly like it should? Or will there be problems/disparity?

why does everyone hate autos. incase u didnt know once we put nitrous or FI our cars are faster. so when a Turbo or super comes out for our car you all will be fast bc stick is better for an NA car. so you all are lucky for right now

well if u want to see funny look in a mirrow. i have a good example. here at my school two kids have identical 1990 300zx TT. one has an auto the other a stick. i have seen them race a couple times on thursday nights here. the auto always beats the stick by around 3/4 a car lentgh. and the kid with the stick can drive. the only mod the cars have is exhaust and a new air fillter.

OK whether you have FI or not, the gearing in your transmission remains the same as it was when it was stock(unless you get some custom tranny work done.) That is a good example of the fact that some cars ARE that way, but you can't go and make a generalized statement about all cars from that. Why do you think just about every enthusiast with a turbo'd car has a standard shift?? I also find that story about the 300zx's a little suspect, since one of my friends is in a Z club here in Tampa and beats the crap out of autos every time, but it is possible, so I'll give you the benefit of doubt.

Yes, it is a valid question, but if he follows some of your teachings, his car is going to get fugged up. An auto was not made to drive like a stick. Sure you can start on d2 then move up, but your beter off just flooring it. Starting on d2 and then moving up will f* up your tranny. If i remember right the new civics have a new smart cpu so it stays on a lower gear so you get more torque when you need it.

Nope your better off just trading it in for a manual. Its sounds like a easy swap but it is a hard and costly swap.

Is it safe to take off in D3 and drop it to 2 and take it to D3 and then Drive? Wouldnt that make the life of the transmission short?
