Rep Power: 0 Replacing motor mounts Civic Si 2002
I am planning to replace the motor mounts myself on my 2002 Civic Si. Except the one by the transmission, which is already replaced by my mechanic. That leaves 3 of them: the 2 on the sides, and the one in the middle, by the radiator.
Question: when I replace the mounts (one by one), do I need to sustain the engine somehow? Will the engine stay in place by itself while replacing each mount? I am asking because I was told that in older cars (Hondas and non-Hondas) you had to support the engine when replacing each mount, otherwise it moves out of place (sort of "fall down") and the other mounts will get broken. One friend told me I should support the engine from underneath the car with a hydraulic lift. Any suggestions from others who replaced the mounts themselves?
Thanks a lot,
C.

From the member "gearbox":
"for the engine mounts, i believe you need to have the engine supported with that big machine thing, um cherry picker? that thing you use to drop engines in"
However, does anybody know for sure if the engine needs to be supported?

Rep Power: 0 I read the same thing in an earlier post on this website, that you can change them one by one, with no mentioning of any support for the engine. Then, a friend told me that his older Golf needed engin support when replacing the mounts. That's exactly why I asked.
I'll suport it with a hydraulic lift underneath, just in case (put a piece of wood between the lift and the engine, otherwise it's metal on metal...).

Rep Power: 298 just put a jack under the engine and trans to support the wieght while the mount being replaced is out. No big deal. you could try to do it without but I don't see the point.
