Override AC / Defrost

I read somewhere once on how to turn off the AC when the defrost is on in an EP hatch. It was a process involving holding down buttons and turning on your car. Does anyone know this process? Please post...thank you!

Nevermind...i remembered where i found it. Here is how to do it, incase anyone wants to have total control of their AC when defog is on:

What you will need: Two Fingers

Time Needed: 10 seconds.

Annoyed with how you can't turn off the A/C when you turn to defog? Here's the override (realize that A/C expediates the defog process).

These steps are taken from a discussion thread on 2k1civic.com

Turn Car Off
Turn Temperature **** To Full Blue (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
Turn Vent **** To Off (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
Hold Down Air Recirculation Button As Well As A/C Button
Keep Both Buttons Depressed and Start Car
Keep Both Buttons Depressed for 7 Seconds
*AC LIGHT SHOULD BLINK*

You will now have control of your A/C regardless of what setting you are in, to revert back, simply repeat the procedue.

just curious, but WHY do this? there are several reasons not to do it. the first was already mentioned. also, if its gas mileage youre worried about, you dont have to. as someone explained on this site a long time ago, honda uses low-drag AC compressors, so very little hp is lost as well as extra fuel consumption. did you ever have your ac off, get on it pretty good, and then turn the ac on while accelerating? or turn it on going up a hill? it takes away very little from the car. also, if its the fact that you dont want to use it in the winter when u wanna be nice and cozy warm in your car, you have little to worry about. i know for a fact that my car gets HELLA hot in there, even with the defrost on.

anyway its not a big deal to me either way, just curious

I notice when my AC is on and I am starting on a hill I have to give it a lot more gas to get it going, so turning the AC off when putting the heater on defrost helps out, plus why is it on by default? Not trying to start a debate here, just curious.

its on by default to help the defroster work better, i think they figured that people wouldnt mind a little lag every now and then, besides hills dont usually last long, so just turn it off till youre moving, and turn it back on

im not saying you guys are wrong im just puttin in my .02

the one i just bought yesterday is like that to, dunno.

although my salesperson told me that since there are a lot of people saying that dont want it to have the ac on, honda is starting to sill use the ac with defrost, but, the ac light wont come on, so people think it off when its actually on, tricky huh?

Re: Override AC / Defrost

generally why people don't want their a/c on unnecessarily like myself is the a/c system is very expensive to work on, unneeded a/c just doesn't make any sense. also i like having the defrost and foot position on so that i get some air flow but it's not blowing in my face, another precise reason that it wouldn't make sense to have it on. and regardless of drag when on, the pump is required to make a constant 100 to 170 psi of freon pressure for the system to work and that does draw a lot of power especially from a 4 cyl engine.
