Hi,

I have a 2002 honda civic automatic transmission and I was driving yesterday and everything was OK. But in the middle of the drive, when i tried to accelerate to faster speeds say from 40 to 60 the the engine would just rev up but i could not get the speed. I could feel as though it did not shift into a higher gear. I did not give much importance thinking it may be due to icy roads.

So I drove further for 10 mins and I had stopped at an intersection. Then I tried to drive but the car won't move enven though the engine was running. So I was stalled in the middle of the road during which i called the tow truck. But after say 15 mins I tried to run and i was able to drive for another 5 mins and then stalled. The engine was still running but car wont move. It was also not the case of tires spinning in ice. So finally I had to get it towed.

So can someone suggest what's the problem with the car stopping but engine still runing? I checked the transmission fluid and its OK. Thanks in advance!!

The 7thgen civics auto trans is defective, this exact problem has happened to many members. Unfortunately, your looking a repair that will cost thousands.

Search around a bit, you'll see this has happened to many many people.

Failsafe mode? have you tried resetting the ECU and seeing if the problem comes back?

OBII? What codes have you thrown?

Checked the trans fulid? does it look like milkshake or dark and dirty?

It might be defective but its worth checking and trying to save it for as long as you can.
