Originally posted by AudioQuest I don't know how many of you follow Formula 1 racing, but Honda has made very few friends in the past week. North American favourite, Jacques Villeneuve has not had his contract renewed with the BAR-Honda team. In his place, the Japanese test driver, Takuma Sato, has been promoted to Villeneuve's seat. Canadians are up in arms about the whole thing, and Honda is taking the most heat as Sato is a Honda-sponsored driver and at best, mediocre. Also, considering that the Honda V10 has been overweight, underpowered, and oddly, unreliable (2 massive explosions at the US GP at Indy), much of Villeneuve's fans anger is directed to Honda. I've seen postings on TSN.ca that call for a banning of Honda altogether. Fan rhetoric, or justified????? |
Villeneuve hasn't produced much during his entire 4 or 5 year contract with BAR. During this time period, JV has been outdriven by teammates such as Takuma Sato and Jenson Button. Sure, the Honda engine hasn't been all that great. But Jenson Button is driving the exact same car and same setup as JV and he's done better this season.
JV is way overpaid. Too much $$ and not enough results. They switched to Sato before the Japanese GP because Sato is the hometown favorite, and they weren't going to renew JV's contract anyways.
It's a long shot, but I'm hoping that Villeneuve will return to CART next season.
I'm also looking forward to the day that Honda stops supplying engines to other teams and forms a team of their own.
