Ok, so I got a jury duty letter in the mail. Its coming up on October 6th. I was originally supposed to do it back in July, but I was out of town for work. Well, I'm actually going to be out of town October 6th (going to Asheville, NC). I called to get it postponed or even taken away (I'm not that lucky) and the lady was extremely rude to me again. She said that I had already postponed it to this date (that she chose) and that I HAD to be there. I told her that I would not be in town and she then asked to speak with my supervisor to let her know that I MUST show up there.
My question for anyone who knows, what are the repercussions of not going? I've been planning this trip for a while now, and I'm not going to cancel it for some bullshit that I don't even want to do in the first place. A lady I work with told me that they can hold me in comtempt of court, is this true? I know there's some officers on here, so please help me out. I tried to search online, but could find nothing. Can I be arrested for it? Help me...thanks in advance!!!!

In my state, the judge decides if a bench warrant is placed on you or not if you do not show. If a bench warrant is placed on you, then, yes, you can be arrested. Good luck and I hope you manage to go on your trip.

I know, but I was planning on being out of town that day and the b!tch won't let me reschedule/postpone it. This trip means a lot to me and like I said, its been planned for a while now.
Are there any laws that are against me? I'm gonna have my boss call tomorrow and see if she can get me out of it. I mean, I guess I could do the jury duty, but i won't be in town. ARRRGGHHH!!!!! WHY ME!?! I know people twice my age that have never been chosen for jury duty...thats what I get for voting...
Actually, you get on jury duty lists from everything including a driver's license, state I.D., you name it and that puts you on jury duty lists. If you can not reschedule it at all, you should probably go so you don't have to deal with the hassle of a possible bench warrant if the judge feels it neccessary to issue one for you. Still though, good luck man!

Unfortunately, this is what I'm afraid of. I mean, I don't want to do the jury duty, but whatever, I'll do it if I have to. I just don't like the fact that the wench on the phone acts like a damn nazi school teacher. I'm not 15.

Anyone else?
Thanks Rbabe...you've been quite helpful.
When you talk to this person, is she the minute clerk over the division of court you are supposed to attend?? If not then ask for the person who is the minute clerk over the division of court you assigned to.
