Question Auto Insurance Coverage on Car Mods

Does anyone know if car insurance covers our mods, or does it just cover factory parts? Thank you for your responses.

I believe that all auto insurance does NOT cover any mods unless you pay the additional premium for it to do so. At least, this is how mine works.

Never heard of that being the case...is that unique to the US?

When my car got broken into a couple of years ago they stole my Altezza's, the insurance company replaced them. All I needed was the bill of sale for them and they did it no questions asked. If there was anything in the car that was taken, like a pile of CD's that would be covered under house insurance.

Yep, Cds arn't covered. I learned the hard way, oh if you have subs tie them down cause they are not covered by auto insurance if they arn't fastend to the car. yep. Check with your insurance, mine will only cover up to $1000 of car mods.

modifications to your vehicle are not covered. I suggest you not inform them either your insurance will skyrocket. Especially on Civics.

Pharoh,

What kind of insurance do you have? I currently have Liberty Mutual. I heard AAA is good, but I do not know if Liberty Mutual covers mods. Hmmm...

I'm fairly certain that this is an indivdual insurance provder choice. Mine wil not cover any modifcations unless I pay an additional premium and get what is called a rider put on my policy for X amount of dollars or I can insure each additional mod for a certain amount. I don't think Pharoh was saying that they all pay for mods automatically, I think he was saying they do for him and askng if I/we were sure it wasn't the same fo us.

All, I need is proof that it was in my car and that I bought it...IE: Bill of Sale and to reinforce it I photograph everything I put in the car...
