Sorry, i don't want to offend any Americans (especially RBabe), I'm just fed up with so many Americans thinking that the US is the center of the universe! i'm especially talking about this guy, Gotti. I've been arguing with him in the off topic forum for the past the past day, and never have i met a more ignorant person. Just check out this thread http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...hreadid=118076
he's saying how much he hates Micheal Moore. In case you guys don't know who this is, Micheal Moore won an Oscar last year for his documentary Bowling for Columbine, a movie about the problem with guns in the US. A movie that everyone should see!
Ok, i feel a bit better now... just needed to vent a little steam...

Normally the arrogance is from those that haven't travelled or attempted to understand other cultures. I mean, I may not like the French, but I try and understand how/why they operate (Governmentally that is) the way they do. Most Americans see us as the worlds saviors (WWI and WWII) but those wars are many years over and prior to those wars, the US was maintaining an isolationist policy on world affairs. Since post-WWII, the US has had to deal with International concerns for the first time in it's relatively short history and I think that many Americans don't quite grasp the ramifications of this. I feel the moral and economic decline in this country is symptomatic to either a great awakening in the (hopefully) near future or an internal civil problem. While this is happening, US businesses are going to be shipping jobs overseas, especially manufaturing, and China is going to reap the lion's share of those jobs. They are doing jobs that Americans get paid $12.00 an hour (on average) for $.60 per hour. Plus they are more willing to work and be productive where most Americans are becoming inherantly lazy. We blame the government or point the finger at any number of others as the reason for our lot in life and don't look to ourselves to fix what is wrong. Probably human nature, I am not a Psych major like RBabe, but I think the US will be irreperabaly down the tubes in the next 10 years or so.
Oh, and sorry for posting in your guy's area, but I guess an Amerian responding is probably better than the "Yeah they suck" responses.
thank you for responding and i respect the fact that you post in this section. You seem to be a well learned american and i find that a good thing. You seem to bring good argument and are able to defend them well unlike many others. I Appreciate any imput you have, even if it is in a Canadian forum. I have nothing against americans, i actually admire the patriotism they show. Although, most patriotism they show is wrong, because they take their country for grantid. They see their country as the best out there without actually going out there and realizing that their country might be good for some things, but some of the other countries have better ways of doings other things.
So, i wasn't really looking for a "yeah, they suck". In fact, i would hate that answer because it wouldn't say much about us either...
Freddy, no offense taken what so ever. It is very true that Americans are the country most self involved and ignorant to any other country besides our own. In fact, that is why most other countries hate us as a whole. Gotti is actually a personal friend of mine, he is really an okay guy. Bowling for Columbine was a spectacular film and everyone should see it. It was absolutely hysterical yet riddled with truth. I have not read that thread but will. Freddy, all that matters is we know what is right and wrong. I know the frustration and you were just venting. But, all you can do is what you are doing. Ignorance has no excuse, but, all we can do is shed as much light on issues such as this verbally and hope the lightbulb comes on in the ignorant individual.
I think Michael Moore is a bit of a loud mouth myself but he is a great film maker.
I also admire Americans for their sense of patriotism and love for their country. I don't like the "We're better than you" attitude that is too often displayed but what can you do about it? Just sit back and laugh if it makes you feel better.
Every country has a certain edge over the other. Ours here in Canada is probably the health care system and our natural resources of which we have plenty.
The United States has the worlds economy by the balls, and some of the best educational institutions in the world.
Even Egypt can be proud of something...They have the oldest known structures in the history of the world outside they're front door with more history than we could all ever hope to have in our countries.
