Not at all, just a bit of DESIGN knowledge that i wanted to share with everyone.
In my business, i get so many poeple that either don't understand or don't know what is involved with Design. That goes for any Design. Clients and the public seem to think that we Designers can whip up something in no time because the computer does it all for us. That is not the case.
Go to any Design School and sit in on a class. First they generate countless "thumbnails" or priliminary sketches of ideas before they even go on the computer. Sometimes they may fart around on the computer with different typefaces. After that is done then they finetune it on the computer and print it out. The Students then put up their work for the rest of the class to see and let them Criticize it and pick it apart. It is a no holds barred bear your soul experience. SOme people can handle it, some can't. You are required to give a rationale for your design choices to the class and you are to critique your own work. What seperates the good designers from the bad is willing to go the distance and being creative.
The real world is no different. You are trained in college/university to beat your head against a wall in order to come up with something solid. SOmetimes a logo design can take months of scribbling in your sketch book before you come up with something that will work. Most cases, people are easy to please. Most designers pour their heart and sole into a logo because it is the toughest thing to do.
I like some of the designs that were posted, IMO they need some tweaking but I think they are good. There is obviously alot of talent in this site and I hope some of them consider going to college or university and taking up Graphic Design or any type of Design. It is a great job and hey, you get paid well to draw.
I guess some of members are upset cause it's being rated as person not the design. I donno I am getting this right or not but that's just my point of view why some people are getting upset. Best for them would have been, send it to Derek-CEO personally and let him post it. well, I dont care, everyone's work is important and they all look good anyways

Damn dude you just brought back memories of the thumbnail, roughs and final images from school. I remember placing my work on the walls for everyone to see. Funny one time a class mate and I had our work shown to students a few Qtrs. ahead of us and that was cool to see the look on there faces.
Anyway, if anything you reminded me of the basics again and I thank you for that. I think I've been guilty of just putting anything together lately.
Talent is talent you can't learn it in school, either you have it or you don't. Some people have great talent and some people know how to direct great talent.
i agree....talent is a gift given by god..to be born with something natural..something u just know how to do... skill is something u learn in many diffrent ways...like school or like trying to learn PS for a couple of years...lol
my talent is not PS. thats only a skill i busted my ass to learn by myself and belive me i still dont understand alot of it.. my talent is an image that appears in my head and being able to draw it the same way on paper... natural designer
