When I watch Korean movies, I usually go for the more action oriented titles or Gangster films like 2009 Lost Memories, Chingu (friend). (btw, you should definitely see 2009)
A great search tool would be to go to yesasia.com and click on Korean products. Then in that search field, you can browse through the movies and read their synopsis'. Sometimes browsing by actor can be a helpful tool.
My brother downloaded My Sassy Girl off the network and burned me a copy. I just haven't gotten around to seeing it. I tend to put anime first.
oh so thats what 2009 is, i see around on "sites" but wasn't sure it was worth downloading, yea u should watch sassy girl, its pretty good, not a typical american style love story, definately a new style
I made a mistake in typing regarding 2009 Lost Memories.
It's not a kang-pae (gangster) movie. It's a science fiction film.
Basically it's speculating on a historical assination of a Japanese Ambassador (or General) during the Japanese occupation of Korea. That moment in history led to events eventually leading to liberation. The movie starts off with the assasination being unsuccesful therefore Korea remains a state of Japan well into the future.
I would strongly recommend this film because the music is very well matched and utilizes cathedral style chorus' like Escaflowne. The photography is very film noir and there are some great filter effects that accentuate mood, kind of how Hype made Belly more surreal with his filters and colors. The main character played by Jang Dong Gun drives a white R33 GT-R.
The movie is going to be mostly in the Japanese language with some sporadic Korean thrown in. I didn't get the full story because I had to quickly read the Korean subtitles. You can find DVD versions of the film with english subtitles.
But as for My Sassy Girl... my brother raves about it so I'll get around to it eventually but I just don't feel like watching a whole movie on a computer.
I finally got around to seeing it.
Man, that girl is sadistic! Makin' the guy walk around in heels all around campus!
My copy didn't have english subtitles, but the Korean was simple enough where I understood 75% of the dialogue and the situations weren't hard to figure out.
