Okay, so I haven't been posting in this thread on purpose. I think this kit does / will speak for itself. Anyone that has a direct question can ask directly (I read all TurboDiscounters.com related threads) or PM me, or email me, or call me or anyone at TurboDiscounters.
However, recent advice from some board members has made me rethink this strategy, so I’m posting just to let you guys know that yes, I am here and yes I know what’s going on.
As is evident by his postings, I've been working with Matt (n318z) and everything is working fine. He'll be doing a dyno and taking pics tomorrow IIRC. Yes, he had installation problems. If there had been a permanent problem we would have, of course, replaced the turbo. This has never happened. Not once. The Garrett turbos are that good.
So let me address a few things:
Matt had to buy a gasket. Out kit is designed to reuse the existing exhaust gasket. You should not need to buy a $5 gasket.
Matt had trouble with the installation instructions. I think he said it in this thread (I know he said it over the phone) he felt the quality of the installation instructions were his biggest problem during the install. We recommend that you have the kit professionally installed. If you want to install it yourself, we ship instructions for a 4 banger Civic. The instructions will not cover every detail specific to your car.
The pictures that zinkyroo is hosting are not of a professionally installed D17. They are of the original D17 that we built the kit with. As such, components are used that may be of test quality. The pictures were sent to Matt to help with in putting in his piping. If you want to see how a TurboDiscounters.com extreme kit looks once installed, check out
this car or, wait until Matt posts his.
One technician told Matt that he didn’t appreciate him posting on a public forum about our kit before he knew what the actual problem was. That technician does not speak for TurboDiscounters and is not terribly ‘Net literate. I’ve called Matt to let him know that he is (of course) free to discuss our kit in whatever forum he chooses. Good or bad, talk about our kits. We’ve got nothing to hide.
So, to those of you that posted saying you’ll no longer be getting a TurboDiscounters.com kit, or that you are re-thinking it, I hope I’ve cleared up any questions you’ve had. If not, please feel free to ask. If you don’t feel comfortable putting down $3k for a TurboDiscounters.com kit because of this thread, wait. RiceBuRNeR gets his kit this weekend and plans on having it installed by a car show next weekend. The show includes a dyno and a drag. Look at the dynos from RiceBuRNer and Matt and then decide.
