vitara pistons and d16 eagle rods into d17?

wsup guys. i was wondering if this set up will fit into the d17. my buddy is quitting his d16 turbo dream so he said he would just give me the parts if they fit. i know the suzuki vitara pistons will fit (75mm) the pins fit our stock rods too (i think?) but the question is if the d16 eagle rods will fit. correct me if i am wrong i think all d17 internals pyshically fit in the d16 but the valves will hit. i just need to know if the eagle H beam rods will fit. i know i will have to get the blocked notched.

if you guys arent aware of the suziki vitara pistons, lots of d16 guys have been running these relatively cheap pistons to achieve 8.8 compression ratio combined with boost for cheap and good numbers. hope they will fit into the d17.

any help is appreciated!

If they fit, we would all be using them instead of shelling out 700 for crower rods.

Contact dezod, carillo was supposed to be developing rods for the d17 for much cheaper. I do not know on the progress of that though.

Re: vitara pistons and d16 eagle rods into d17?

D17 pistons are 3mm shorter than D16 pistons. Anything that drops compression in a D16 will do nothing or maybe even raise D17 compression.

Re: vitara pistons and d16 eagle rods into d17?

so i will have to get a shorter rod? trying to do a low budget turbo build. im turbo'd already i just want to safely hit around maybe 230~whp without the bottom end breaking. i was thinkin of just getting new rod bearings and ARP rod bolts and calling it a day cuz it seems that the rod bearings tend to spin in these motors. well from my experience thats the only problem i have had with my stock d17 w/ boost. spun 3 rod bearings already but the engine and crank is still good. will stock block with upgraded bearings/bolts and rsx-s injectors get me to 200?

dont bother, just buy the right parts. I went down the road you are trying to go down, its not as easy as you'd think.

Re: vitara pistons and d16 eagle rods into d17?

I don't think the engine is your problem, I think you have issues elsewhere. There are no "upgrades" to bearings, just bearings. Typically bearings spin due to lack of oil pressure.

^^ i am aware of that. but i have my autometer electric oil pressure gauge which i hawk eye all day and i never saw a drastic change in oil pressure. only when warming up the car etc etc.

Re: vitara pistons and d16 eagle rods into d17?

If you're really worried about spinning another bearing, you could (I wouldn't) run more clearance. I'm assuming you can do the whole honda color coded bearing thing in a d-series that you do with a b-series. Running more clearance than spec can open up a whole new can of worms but I'll leave that for you to decide.

theres hella threads on honda-tech about this too.....depends on if u or the other person is doing it because if u dont feel comfortable u could have major problems by being off a lil bit

Re: vitara pistons and d16 eagle rods into d17?

MisterFrankieJ:

you say i could run bigger bearings but you wouldnt? wouldnt there be more room for the bearings to spin? and if you say i can do it what is the reason that i shouldnt do it? i spun 3 rod bearings and my oil pressure was always nominal. using 5w30 oil.

Re: vitara pistons and d16 eagle rods into d17?

Has anyone looked in to increasing the oil pressure of the stock pump by shimming the relief spring maybe? Just a shot in the dark

Re: vitara pistons and d16 eagle rods into d17?

Well if you arent running arp rod bolts yet then you should have switched over to them after spinning bearings b4. Its more likely that your tune sucks and detonation is hammering on the tops of the rod bearings. In any case all the performance parts in the world wont make up for that type of problem.
