Is this just me?

Ok, after my car overheated from head lift and my stock head bolts streching, I took it apart, replaced the HG, IMG, put ARP's in, got the head milled and the car hasn't overheat.

The problem I'm having now is the car misfires every cylinder........ I installed Crower valve springs/retainers while the head was off so it's running those right now without the crower cam until it get's here sometime this week.

I'm running k20a injectors, no FMU installed but I have greddy emanage, t25 turbo kit.

Here's the question:

Could the valve springs have anything to do with my car misfiring? Is it because I have the valve springs/retainers without the crower cam? Or could it have to do with the block in some way?

I checked the plugs and even got diff. ones, the car still misfired with new plugs! I'm stuck and need some intelligent 7gen helpers!

thank you guys in advance

I thought milling the head was a no no when it comes to the d17? Did it mess with your compression? Hope you get this resolved and this doesn't open up a big can of worms with your engine.

Dude, there are so many things it could be. You're getting misfires on every cylinder, I would bet money your timing belt is waaaaay off.

Hmmm.....maybe your machine shop took a big bite off of the head and it threw your cam timing off, I'd tend to believe it would take a ton of milling to throw misfire codes though. The springs and retainers absolutely have nothing to do with it. Either the thing is knocking pretty bad from someone severely butching the head decking, or your cam timing is off like Andy stated above, which is most likely. Also if you have a leaky HG it can cause random misfires but it seems like this wouldnt be the case seeing how its in every cyl.

My emanage always tripped misfire codes among other misterious things, even when set with no calibrations. I sold it and bought AEM, best thing I coulda done.

Awesome, thanks for all the possible solutions and help everyone has provided me. I'm going to check my timing and once I install the cam I will re-adjust the valves/timing again and see where I'm at!

My timing was off that's why my car was misfiring. Re-adjusted the valves and she sounds good now with the stage 2 turbo cam in. Time for tune!

Nope it won't change anything. The head milling won't change timing either really. All they did was deck it. I ran mine fine and I took like 10 thousandths off or something...

Actually miiling does change cam timing. Not by much but it does throw it off.
If you think about lining two marks up then remove some space one of the two marks will move to compensate for the lack of material. But if it was surfaced then it wont affect it by much at all. It is always nice to figure out our problems before creating new ones congrats on the fix. Maybe post up some vids after your tune. I love to see people do things to the d17. I wish I had some wevos to do em.

Honda doesn't commend anything over 15 thousandths off of the D17 head. That isn't enough to make a noticeable change anyway.

I got my cam/springs and retainers installed this weekend and I'll be posting a huge thread of the experience tonight. What do you know I too am throwing misfire codes hehe. The first time it threw a misfire code was on the dyno when the tuner tried to add 1 degree of ignition timing to gain some hp but the ECU went crazy and the car sounded like fire crackers were going off...pop pop pppppoppoppoppp. (We're not really sure why the ecu won't let us add AT LEAST 1 degree). Anyways, I've been getting misfire codes I every now and then I noticed when the car bogs down too low or on really cold mornings and its hard for the car to idle. So far I just bought an OBD2 scanner and just clear them and they go away. Anyone figure out why we're throwing codes. BTW I'm on emanage with a stock cam gear lined up to factory spec, my friend tells me to get a cam gear to play with it to see if the misfire go away. Not sure if thats a solution.

when you mill the head it does throws off the cam timing. either get an adjustable cam gear and advance the timing about 3* or buy a thicker head gasket to make up for the difference you lost when you milled the head.

When you make the distance between the cam gear and the crank shorter, and use the same length timing belt (which you have to do) you change the number of teeth that are between the cam and the crank. Its simple math!

The misfire will be there because of the cam and retainers I believe. Yes, getting a cam gear will be a big help that way you can advance/retard the timing instead of the stock gear that let's us do absolutely nothing I will be getting tuned HOPEFULLY next week so I will let you know. I don't think alittle misfire is going to hurt either. I'm also running Emanage.

It has to be your plugs. I had the same EXACT problem "before" I was boosted and it was because of the shitty plugs that I ran. Get OEM plugs or get some Iridium IK20's Your problem should go away.

I will. Also, do you have the plug n play harness? I have the PNP harness so it's about a million x's easier than trying to figure out what wire goes where, good investment!

Yes, I do have the Pnp harness. It took a lil creativity to get that thing to fit behind the glove compartment but we got it in there.

any one else run on 91 inn there EX that has a mis fire?
I am curious as to why you are running 91 in your civic. You definately dont need to be wasting the money/hurting your car and plugs with that. You need to run regular. Thats why your car says UNLEADED ONLY. If you turbo your car, than run 91-101 and nothing less. I say use regular and you will help performance, and your car should run better and plugs should last longer.

....and John, you MUST bring me for a ride NOW!!!! or as soon as conveniently possible. I have to see this. Sounds very nice. Good choice with the T25. I was very happy with mine. I love quick spool (as long as it can hold boost pretty well to near redline).

My leggie didnt hit 18psi until 4500 in 1st, lol. After that, it was neck snapping fun, though, lol.
