making a manifold

ok so since someone cant give me their t25 manifold i want to give a shot at fabricating my own.

so im guessing a few on this site know a lot about this like dezod
can i just cut off the flange from a stock header and then weld the rest of it on?
i think it can be done just that i dont have a lot of knowledge about manifolds
i just want to try it cuz i have access to a machine shop right now and my teacher is a really good welder.
if anyone could give me more info on how to go about this it would be awesome
like what type of pipes to use etc...

i wouldn't use the stock flange because the ports from the flange are way too small....

you can try and make your own just be sure that you're using some quality material so that the manifold doesn't crack....

btw... what happend to the idea about getting an rx8?

well the exhaust ports are tiny on our cars anyways. besides its a t25. That really wouldnt be the major issue. The problem you will have with using the stock header is that it will eventually do the same as an obx. fatigue and fall apart. except it will do it even faster. The tubing they use for our headers is too thin and not made to withstand those temps.

you CAN do it, but i would not recommend it.

Structurally, the stock manifold is not made to have the weight of a turbo hanging off of it, and it also is not made to handle the extra heat generated by the restriction of a turbo.

you can get a flange for $30 mild steel from a few places. you can get Sched 10 304L pipe from www.mcmaster.com for about $5.50 each, or sched 40 if you want, but sched 10 is plennnnnnty strong IF welded correctly. Dont listen to what some people on here say, sched 10 is more than enough, 16guage is strong enough if welded correctly. thats what I am using. im assuming your making a log manifold so you dont need to worry about making a collector jig, just cut a hole with a torch or whatever you want to use.

Im in the process of making a tubular top-mount manifold for a T3/T4 with a full 3" DP and exhaust. should have pics in the upcoming 2-3 weeks when its all completed.
