itf its your daily driver, stick with D17. And if you're on a budget, stick with D17 again.
I have a k20a swap for a year now and i'm still fixing the bugs. Its ridiculous... I've estimated that i've spent about another 2K just on parts and labor for fixing the bugs, from PS rack to clutch master cylinder.
If i could go back I wouldn't do it to my daily driver. Learn from other ppl's mistake.
Best part about working with a D17 boosted is that you can just take off the turbo kit and part out.
If anyone says turboed cars are less reliable than swapped i say not true and thats not always the case. If you do it right you won't have problems. My celica gt-s was turbo'd at 35K miles, and I sold it with 120K miles. Never had major issues with it. With turbo, sky is the limit.

thanks for clearing up my problem to. I was stuck between the two but after hearing kassiimmm i think I will go with the dezod turbo kit with p&p head....i think i remmeber reading the kit with just that was about 200whp with a good tune on an auto. Correct me if im wrong but thats a good deal, you'd be running with k20 swaps even with their basic mods.
can't you buy a kit out there somewhere i forget the name but it is a rebuild to make our tranny alot stronger to hold up to the abuse of a turbo. i know it wasnt cheap but least that wouldnt be an issue anymore
well it all depends on how serious u are going to get. my mechanic told me that D17 engines really dont have a lot of power to them. Throwing a turbo with low boost (6-8) would be nice but a k20 has a lot more power. not to mention a k20 can run high hp all na. So if it were me i would swap. Once you go turbo you hafta upgrade a lot of stuff as well. U just cant buy a turbo kit and expect for everything to fit right on.

Wrong. At 8 psi, I made about 220-ish whp. Show me a stock n/a k20 swap that can outrun me. Not gonna happen.
