I'm not a fan of blockguards. It's a cheap way to have a false sense of security as far as I'm concerned. The design on these blocks was to be completely open and by partially closing it off, you're hindering the ability to cool the cylinders properly. Some people swear by them but I say if you are going to do it, do it right with open deck sleeves.

Block guards make things worse. Since they are only attached at one small part of the cylinder wall, the rest is still able to move/flex/grow/shrink, which can cause it to break away from the part attached to the blockguard. Plus, they really do nothing to help you run more boost in a motor such as ours. If it was a closed deck-style with a small part of the top of the cylinder being open deck-style, then a blockguard will help, and the motors that blockguards were originally designed for had this setup. But now, they seem to make a blockguard for just about every motor, and for many motors a blockguard will make things worse instead of better.
