This is just a general message for this forum. Since I am the main moderator who keeps track of this section of Off-Topic I wanted to make sure we keep some ground rules. Especially since this is a Computer/Gaming forum.
--There is absolutley no posting of illegally pirated software for PC or illegal ROMs for video game consoles. No linking, nothing. I know it is tempting to share that sweet find, but PM it or AIM. This is not my policy, this is the forum policy. I will not be locking threads that contain links to anything illegal, the post/thread will be deleted and I will PM you a warning. No hard feelings just how it has to work!
Alright, for all you video gamers without all that old hardware anymore, this thread contains links for emulators for all those classic video game system. Keep in mind, emulators are LEGAL. However, downloading ROMS (a PC version of the video game that plays on the emulator) are NOT LEGAL. Not even downloading for 24 hours and then deleting, blah blah.
STRAIGHT FROM NINTENDO:
There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.
That is why I will not, repeat, WILL NOT post links to downloading ROMS for any Nintendo based console/game. However, if I clear it, I do have thousands of Atari roms, which may or may not be legal, but simply put, Atari couldn't care less about illegal distribution of 20 year ROMs.
I will not even address the issue of Sony, Microsoft, or Sega, as those are clearly illegal.
So, on with the show! Here are LEGAL emulators of all those classic video game systems:
I will continue to update this thread as I get the time. You may also contact me if you need a specific rom over PM or AIM, I am willing to give you SNES, NES roms, etc. but not on the board. Please post if you find anything relevant to video gaming that you think will be a frequently asked question!
Peace!

Originally posted by NoFriends haha im sure we all own every single game that we are backing up with ROMs... nothing illegal about that
Don't worry Nintendo will find a way to sue you whether it's your game or not. Or if that doesn't work they will tell Link and Mario to go kick your ass.
