ive been having this problem on and off but now its not working at all. i have a second hd running off ata controler card and sometimes the drive will not power up. through the boot screens every 10 secs or so, i hear a lil beeping like its trying to bump start the drive, and usually after a while it turns it on, but now nothing. ive tried restarting, unglugging comp for a while, idk. any help is appreciated.

either try it in a different computer or external enclosure or consider it dead.

All the drive needs to spin up is power. If it's not spinning up it's dead Jim. If you get close to the drive this is a noticeable whiiring noise followed by a gentle click.

see i turned off the ups power supply for a while and then tried everything again, it started just fine. now a day or two later, not working at all anymore. maybe having a tiny power supply for 2 hds, 2 cdrom drives, and a zip drive finally caught up to me.

Sounds like a loose connection to me.
