Why is my online gaming so slow?

I just bought a HP DV9000 laptop and for some reason my online games have a lot of lag, I'm trying to find out what I need to replace. Here are the specifications:

2 120 gig hard drives
2 gigs of RAM
Nvidia GeForce GO 6150 video card
AMD Turion 64 X2 1.9 ghz processor
1440x900 resolution

I figured it was the video card since the rest seems to be fine but I don't know anything about that card either.

The game I want to play is Day Of Defeat which runs on the Halflife engine and here are the resolutions that work and don't work:
1440 16:10 - laggy
1280 16:9 - laggy
780 16:10 - bearable

Yep, probably the video card. Onboard video cards always suck.

Re: Why is my online gaming so slow?

it could be your processor power. At those resolutions the CPU is still taking MOST of the hit. That would make sense because I have a core 2 duo wich is faster.

Re: Why is my online gaming so slow?

I would recomend dumping the temp files and looking at what you have running.

You may be eaten up with spyware or adaware.

Follow me:
Start/Run
Then type "%temp%" now delete all the files here. Don't worry they are temp files.

Now,
Start/Run
Then type "cleanmgr"
and let it do it's thing.

Then get Adaeare 2007 and install it and run it.

But if it's a X2 processor, that means it's dual core right? So it'd be more powerful than my Athlon 3500+ desktop processor right? I can run it on crazy high resolutions on my desktop no problem.

Re: Why is my online gaming so slow?

As i said earlier, it's the video card. That CPU along with 2GB of RAM is more than adequate to run most modern games.

Perfect, any idea which kind of video card I should get? Think I can get one for around $100?

Re: Why is my online gaming so slow?

www.newegg.com is always a good place to start. I'm pretty sure you can get a decent one for around the $100 mark.

Re: Why is my online gaming so slow?

New Egg has mostly PCMCIA cards and I don't have a slot for that. The only internal card they had was $280.

Well..... i guess you can try and google something, or eBay. Or maybe try FRY's electronics, i don't know if you have them in your area or not.

Oh yeah maybe www.pricewatch.com

you're not going to be able to replace a laptop's video card. very few allow that.

What good is a computer you can't exchange parts on? What about an external video card?
