you dont buy a laptop to upgrade it. thats what desktops and desktop replacement laptops are for. upgradeable laptops start at like $1500 up to $6000.

Re: Why is my online gaming so slow?

Ok, im fighting this battle too. So heres your options:

If the GeForce GO card you've got is an "onboard" video chipset, meaning a single chip soldered to the motherboard, this is the slowest situation.

If your video card is a "dedicated" video card, meaning it connects to the motherboard via a 16x PCIexpress (16 PCIe "lanes" wide) slot, you're in better shape. Yes, this sounds like the desktop bus equivalent, and it is, just way smaller.

Even if you can find someone who makes a video card that attaches via your "ExpressCard" slot (not PCMCIA, that was older, preceded by CardBus), the video card will be limited to 250MB/sec bandwidth, which is 1x PCIe (the ExpressCard slot is 1-lane wide). Sort of like a factory intake vs CAI if you will.

Either way, upgrading the video hardware on the laptop is probably out of the question, as you would be the first person in the world to do it.

What now? Upgrade your video drivers. Ive got a Dell, and they haven't updated their drivers since 2006. ATI continues to post newer drivers for my videocard, but they dont let them install on DELL branded machines. They say DELL has to write the drivers, who, after they have your money, never update your stuff again unless a lawsuit could be involved.

Enter "OmegaDrivers.net". Go there, download the appropriate driver for your video card. This guy writes turbocharged, high performance video drivers for gamers who want to play on the machine they have, their laptop.

Theres a bunch of other things you can do to improve performance in gaming, heres a few...

Go to System Properties, Advanced tab, virtual memory -> set pagefile size to zero megabytes. Windows will say it does not like this, click I dont give a shit, set my pagefile to zero.

With 2GB of memory, unless you're trying to run 2 copies of photoshop and play your game, you shouldn't run out of memory, and the game wont be pulling page data from the harddrive, everything should come from your memory instead, which is about eleventy-billion times faster than paging from the harddrive.

Jeez, i could go on for hours about this. If you want to know more, let me know. Don't want to geek it up too much. Good luck man.

Re: Why is my online gaming so slow?

it's the video card, as said earlier. what OS are you running? if it's vista, google about running xp on your laptop, as some manufacturers don't offer various updates for your system under the older OS. but it will run so much faster :P. but yeah, your video card is old n slow. don't feel too bad, as any gpu in a laptop is not that great in comparison to a dekstop
