Cable is usually about 10 bucks cheaper a month the DSL and twice as fast. Almost all cable companys cap your bandwith at 384k downstream and 30k upstream. While standard DSL is 150K down, and 13-15k up. And yes you will loose some speed if u are far away from the main DSL router, but the difference is minor. Once you get broadband whether it be DSL or Cable, you will never be able to go back to 56k. As for providers, its all dependant on who is your local cable company. I have Cox.net and its terrible, constant drop offs and low upload caps. But its still a HELL of a lot better then 56k. Ive had DSL and Cable, and i prefer cable. $.02
I just moved & tried to get cable in my new apartment, but I just had to pick the one spot in freakin Dallas that dosent have any cable companys with internet capability. I had cable in my previous place so I didnt even bother with pluging it in to dial up cuz I knew it would piss me off. So after awhile of searching I had to settle with DSL, & had to get a land line that I didnt want(just got a shitload of minutes for my cellphone expecting to not need a land line). I got a good deal though because im getting both through SBC/Yahoo, took for freaking ever to get the modem in the mail, but just came tonight, so ...YAAAHOOOOOOOO(que banjo music)

Yes my friend it does suck. For me, I think cable will be more expensive because I dont have cable TV. We have satellite. Anything broadband would be nice.
Even if you have satellite, you can still get cable internet, i have it at my house and they only charge an extra $2.00 a month to have it at the house
