Changing The Automatic shifter

I've seen this done by a couple of 7thgeners and I Need some help...

How did you get the stock Auto shifter off (Couldn't find in any forms)

What is a good site to replace the shifter and get a boot

Do you just get the 5 spd console piece to replace the Auto to fit the shift boot

I know these questions are dumb but I'm still new to fixing up cars and Living in Germany isn't much help If itisn't a VW GOlF no one knows shit. So anyone that can help

ok, the suto shifter is easy. there is 2 small screws on the front or back whatever, the side poiting towards the front of the car. THen it just slides off.

RAZO has some nice auto shifters.

For a boot, you can check out http://www.jujeracing.com
they just had a GB here for boots for autos and other stuff.

attention

i have a 2001 civic ex. i tried to order the 2001 manual shifter peice. which included the trim peice and the boot. IT DOES NOT FIT. the trim will slide down but the silver peice to the automatic shifter (*were the letters are) gets in the way. i tried to hack up the new trim peice but still no luck in fitting flushy. so i wasted like 20 bucks. what i ended up doing was just ripping the boot out of that trim peice and ussing the stock auto trim peice. so then i just layed the the boot over the peice with the shifter letters. then put the trim peice over it. kinda tight but it holds snug.

you need to remove that entire piece, it does come off. i believe there are 2 screws holding it down. I know people with 2001 civics who have done this mod successfully.

Thanks for posting that DIY HCivic02. I was looking for that.

Would anyone happen to know if an 03 Civic would be done differently. Would I still have to take out the middle console? I'm looking at the manual shift boot I bought and it looks like it just snaps into place. So I'm wondering if the automatic shift boot is also held by clips and can easily come off.

Sorry, I know pics would help. I'll post them later on.

Okay, here's the manual shift boot I bought. Notice the clips? I'm wondering if the automatic shift boot is held the same way so that maybe I won't have to take out the center console.

You will probably still have to take the console out because the automatic is held in by some screws.

How can you use different shift knobs on an automatic if they don't have the little trigger button on them? Wouldn't that prevent you from dropping it into D2 on the fly?

When you are shopping for a different shift knob you see if it says automatic.

Hondawerx will also have the shifter boot/bezel thing. Just shoot him an e-mail or PM him.

As for the AT shifter knobs w/o a trigger, you have to push down on the entire knob to disengage the gate lock thing.

THOSE OF YOU WITH A 2003 CIVIC:

you do not have to remove the center console at all. the piece is indeed just clipped into place. you can simply rip it out *mumble* luckybastards..

ALL 2001~2002 models are being held on with screws, and you must remove the center console.

Cool! Thanks Mex!

InanimateCarbonRod, how did you connect the shift boot to the shift knob? It looks like you didn't remove the silver piece on the shift boot. I have the same RAZO shift knob.

I have a spring under the shift boot that keeps the silver piece pushed against the bottom of the shift knob. It's a pretty light spring, I'd guess the length to be about 2-1/2 to 3" long. I picked it up at the local Sears Hardware store.

Anyone have any problems so far with it? Espcially if your using the Razo RA89??

That looks like the 2001 version. They should be able to get the 2002 version for you.

Yup, just give them the part number that ak provided. If they don't have it in stock, they should order it for you. When I asked for the shift boot for an 03, they didn't have it in stock so they had to order it.

To remove your shifter just set your ebrake and then pull the shifer into neutral (so you can see what you're doing). Then there's 2 screws on the front of it you can remove and then it just slides right off.
