after market shift knob

hi. i am installing a shift knob on my 2002 honda civic lx coupe and having a little trouble. I can get the shift knob on there all fine and everything, the problem is that the shift boot does not clip on like my factory shift knob, instead it just hangs down below the shift knob. do you have any suggestions on how to solve this problem? i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks,
matt

The search button has the answer to that one. It gets answered at least once a week. Popular fixes include: Tape, zip ties, or just saying the hell with it. But the search button has the full writeup.

I have the same problem but it doesn't bother me. I have a crome weighted Greddy shift knob and it doesn't look too bad.

is that the round stainless steel knob? i got the same one a year ago. don't you love how it "throws its weight around" when shifting. watch out though, it gets really hot on sunny summer days. here's a link to the last time this shift boot topic was discussed:

that was such a headache. and when i finally installed the new brake handle, the rest of the e-brake looked like crap. so i now had no choice but to make a leather boot for it (i don't have pics yet, but i'll be adding them to the members' rides section soon).

Use black electrical tape, it looks OK if you do it right. Since the shift boot is black, just tape over the plastic silver part to your shift knob. Or, just get a new shift boot... $50, big deal. Plus it looks cooler.

I did the same thing when I got mine, and all you have to do is take off the shift boot and cut the zip tie that hlds on tthe stock plastic thing that attaches it to the stock knob, and get a rubber garden hose O-ring (like $.02 tops) and stick the edge under it and put it over the shifting shaft, ( it will be tight , but it will work just fine) and it looks PIMP AS HELL!!! Ill try to post pics tonight!
