I removed it yesterday and damn!! Sounds awsome, sounds like I have an aftermarket intake. It roars when I step on the gas . I was just wondering if it would it hurt the gas mileage, power, and engine?

It won't hurt anything but those other people that don't appreciate noise. The only thing that will affect your mpg is your ears' commands to your foot.

one on left side of engine bay, big one, 4 or 5 bolts i think, 10mm and you need an extension to get to one at least... im shure theres a diy or somthing somwhere
I did the same thing around xmas love it. I'm to broke to buy an intake and this is the same effect, except for the filter.
Hcivic02, it's the big box on the left of the place where the filter is, direcly over the tranny.Takes about ten minutes to remove. Then just buy a k&n drop in filter.
I was about to do it, but I had some questions. When you take the resonator out, what did you do with the little intake pipe that's to the left of the resonator? I would think that's a more sensible place to take air in from because it's further from the engine and in a relatively cool location. Did you guys just let the intake suck in air from where it's opening, or did you somehow connect it to the pipe? BTW, concerning power, doesn't removing the resonator create gains along the entire powerband?

I completely disagree with everything except for the loss of low-end torque.
Less power would not equal less mpg. More air equaling more fuel would cause less mpg.
The resonator does impose some restriction. You probably do gain about .5hp by removing it. A better statement would be that you don't gain any low-end power but gain a hair at the mid to top. Our stock intakes are so free-flowing to begin with that there just isn't much to be had by modding it.
You should not see a decrease in mpg unless it is from a heavy foot.
The stock resonator and airbox are completely removed when installing a cai or sri. An aftermarket intake is just a tube that connects to the tb with a filter on the end of it.
I just removed the air filter for the first time to take a look at it and it was dirty. Ewww......So fast? I was woundering if removing that resonator had to do with that being so dirty? But then again this is my first time removing the air filter.
you lose power, and you have to replace yoru filter more often, thats all.
you wont feel the power loss at all. but then, after a few weeks, put teh resonator back in. man does it feel like it has a ton more pickup! screw it, ill leave it in.
dont you get annoyed on teh highway? that drove me nuts enough by itself for me to leave it in!
it will decrease your mpg cause youll want to hear the sound more often.
it hurts power because now the tb is sucking in air closer to the engine.
might hurt the filter since more crap is gonna hit it.
I did this for a few days, because Injen packed the wrong part with my intake and instead of putting everything back on, I just put the airbox back in. I much prefer the sound of the SRI though. The airbox alone (w/o resonator) made the car sound like it was bogging along, not a powerful sound. But I guess if ya don't want to spend the cash for an intake, this is a cheap solution! Be sure to have a 10in socket extension to remove the resonator.
