magnaflow exhaust leak (magnaflow owners)

Just installed my exhaust yesterday and I have one exhaust leak right at the first clamp comming back from the exhaust down pipe. I tryed turning the pipes and clamps but that didnt help. Anyone have any ideas, or should I just go get it welded? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

I had the same problem. The pipes have to fit straight into each other perfectly. If either one is sitting slightly at an angle the u-bolts won't seal the connection. I broke a u-bolt because I over-tightened it trying to get rid of the leak. When that happened, I cursed and said f-it, I am taking it to get welded. While the car was up on the rack, I could hear one of the other connections leaking ever so slightly. My system is welded at 2 of the 3 connections. The connection behind the cat was fine.

Yeah that was the biggest pain in the ass for me. I had to slide the midpipe a little further forward, then check to make sure none of the connections were exposed, then tighten the hell out of those clamps. Still hangs a little low, but I can live with that.

hehe nice to know im not the only one with this problem =) I was starting to get mad because when ever I move the 2nd pipe towards the front of the car then the 2nd clamp would leak, and vice versia. Very nice exhaust though.

question.....is the DIY just for Magnaflow Exhaust??

or will it work for any other exhaust??

who from this thread's selling Magnaflow Exhaust??

is it just the muffler?

does anyone recommend something else?
(not too loud..I like it subtle, but not subtle)

The exhaust system is one the easiest things to do yourself imo. You have 3 bolts behind the cat and 2 where the midpipe connects to the muffler. Jack the car up, slide under with a can of wd-40 or liquid wrench, spray the bolts liberally, wait about 10mins or so, and then take the bolts off and remove the oe exhaust. You won't have any problem installing the new system after taking off the oe.

yep...think of the riciest exhaust you've ever heard - that's the sound a leak makes.
