97 Civic EX 1.6 VTEC Engine Swap

Hello All,
I'm a newbie to this site so I hope I'm posting this in the right section.
My question is looking to swap engines the 1 in the car now has a knock maybe a wrist pin or connecting rod bearing. What engines can I swap without any mods to wiring or ecu just a straight up swap. Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: 97 Civic EX 1.6 VTEC Engine Swap

A obd2 1.6l vtec, {D16Y8} Is only thing with out having to do anything elas to it. That be the motor you already have. Everything elas is eather going to have wiring, ecu, and change mounts. Some even the shifter and linkages. If your not wanting to change any of that. your kind stuck. Unless you want to spray your new motor.

Cool Re: 97 Civic EX 1.6 VTEC Engine Swap

If i am looking for another engine what blocks could i use that would interchange with my D16Y8 VTEC head, manifold etc. This is all new to me I keep seeing people talking about the minime swaps so I'm assuming there may be several short blocks that I can use. I really appreciate any help.

Any of your D blocks will interchange. Except the d17. Ive seen a few try it and its still kinda iffy. What a mini me swap is, is taking a non vtec d engine and putting a vtec head on it. Like i said your best bet is to just find you another y8 if you dont want any kind of headachs. Call down to h-motors see if they may have one for yea at a good cost.
