if the balljoint is free, just attatch the axle to the knuckle and use it as a swing, banging the axle in. if its not, take a hammer and 2x4 and use the wood as a barrier inbetween the axle and the hammer. u dont want to booger up the end of the axle with a hammer
Hm, Im not quite following you there. The ball joint, that's at the bottom of the brake rotor/caliper assembly right? so, what youre saying is to attach the brake rotor/caliper assembly to the axel, on the wheel side, then hold the brake rotor and just hit it in?
pull it out and rework that clip on the end so it goes in. Also test it with out the clip on to see if it goes all the way it should go in really easy with out the clip on
Damn, I tried that like you told me yesterday. Seems like something else is wrong. If I try it without the clip and it still doesn't go in, what wrong with it? I also tried to feel around inside the differential, doesn't feel like anything is wrong in there.
I'm going to go try it without the clip.
It's bad to drive around without the clip ring in there right?
yes, its bad to do so. sounds like u need a bigger hammer....
take axle in hands, pull until the axle pulls apart, and jam it in with both hands as hard as u canand just keep slamming it in until it pops, the shaft should go in all the way till it bottoms out. but it shoudl go in easily without the clip, if not, check the axle grooves for unevenness u may have ground them down so they wont go back in
just slam it with a sledgehammer. or take of the ball joint (the most bottom bolt on the knuckle) and use the whole knuckle as leverage to slam it in. try greasing the inside of the tranny to help it slide in easier. the teeth of the axle could be ruined because it wasnt all the way in.. it might look like they are ruined visibly but they can be. when the same thing happened to me my axle wouldnt go in and i just bought another axle from autozone and it slid right in easily. try buying a new axle, im sure it will go in. you can pick up autozone axles for about 50-60 bucks.
also, keep rotating the axle little by little to make sure the teeth line up. it doesnt take that much force to get it in. so if you find yourself beating at it with a sledgehammer with all your strength something is definitely wrong. mos tlikely just the axle
Yep yep I definitely noticed that something was wrong, because the passenger side went in ok with some force, but not really really hard.
I think that there is something wrong with the axel, because I see little marks probably from when they popped out in the first place.
I'm going to call it a day, then maybe get a metal file and file down the imperfections on the axel, think it's a good idea? I'll post pics in a second.
Although I want to try to use the Honda Axels as long as possible, bomberman said that they have like dampers or something in them which aren't on the aftermarket ones...not sure.
Yeah man, use a file or a dremel on those splines. Shine a flashlight into the tranny case as well to see if the splines are all fubar'd on the tranny side as well.
an Axle is an Axle true but the honda one's come with a rubber dampner on them wich helps control unwanted vibration. The advanced/autozone axles are great to drive on. but my buddy who puts down 489whp out of a d17 ran into a problem on the dyna-packs. The passenger side of the car and the dyna-pack would start shaking violently until you got up to full boost. which is really scary to stand next to. we believe it was due to an unbalanced axle.
So if you can keep the honda axle do it but if not don't waste the money on a new honda axle cause there almost $400 go down to autozone and pick one up for $75
