i see you were asking about tranny lock up. self explanatory it means the transmission wont spin anymore. say you were driving and your tranny locked up, your car would come to a violent stop because the tranny doesnt spin anymore. i doubt you broke that bearing.
Couldn't you damage the flywheel like that? Or would the trany be the only thing that's hurt?
The flywheel is part of the engine from what I recall, and not the trany. Could be wrong.
Another small update, I got a chilton manual for the civic, and it doesn't say anything about opening up the transmission, actually I take that back, it has a paragraph that explains that you shouldn't do it on your own, and it takes lots of tools to do it! I found it funny, thinking that a manual like this has everything else, even working on engine internals but nothing about transmission internals. I think it's funny.
I'm going to get under the car today and see what's going on, if everything looks normal, I'm going to start taking it apart.
now I know where everything is, so I'm hoping it'll be faster this time around.
get an actual honda manual, it does take special specs and tools to get the tolerances and gaps right, its why i havent broken down my spare trans yet....
Another update. I spent four hours pulling the transmission out. I got it out, opened up the case, pulled everything out, and um, yeah I can't find a single thing wrong with anything!
With help from bomberman19, I finally realized that I didn't put the axels all the way back in when I did it the first time, so when I went around that corner, both of them popped out, and the passenger side axel, the teeth got sheared off, just the smaller ones at the top. So yeah!...... I pulled out the whole trans again for nothing.
Oh well. At least it's not a big deal....also, I'll be able to pull out the differential and make sure there's no little metal parts sitting in there. So it's good that I pulled it out anyways.
It goes back in tomorrow. Can't wait. This will be the first time I can drive regularly with my clutch and flywheel.
good stuff..... same thing happened to me... i thought my tranny was fuxed but i guess if one axle pops out the whole car wont move. sorry i couldnt help you with that sooner >_<
I put it all back in together, and filled it up with fluid bled the clutch, did all of everything, drove it down the street a couple of miles and back everything works great! I'm going really easy on it right now, just for the hell of it. Oh and yes I do have reverse! ha ha
Special thanks to everyone that helped! Bomer, Foos, Greeen01, civicsrcool.
Edit: I did the math, I spent 179 bucks on some tools, oil, brake fluid, jacks, jack stands random stuff. I'm glad though. I opened it up twice. Technically all of the labor to do that twice would cost something like 1800 bucks. So I donno, Im glad.
