Exhaust/Muffler question.....

I currently have a custom catback exhaust (Apexi WS 2.25" piping) matched to a Tsudo Angled Muffler. I am getting an exhaust rattle and I believe it is coming from the muffler...of course I could be wrong because it only happens when the car sits at idle for a short period of time (1-2 minutes). Its totalling pissing me off but because the Tsudo muffler is QUITE loud anyways I was thinking of installing my OEM muffler matched to my 2.25" piping...anyone done this or know of anyone that has...Im still arguing with myself over whether or not I should do it...basically it boils down to this: Im tired of the dammmmn rattling noise and I want a quieter exhaust... It is most likely the the hanger of the exhaust vibrating (i.e. rattling) against the hanger on the car. It can be easily resolved by puttin hockey tape on both hangers so the rubber gromet doesnt move. I have a HKS axelback exhaust if you really do want a quieter exhaust. 150+shipping. bac1217@hotmail.com if you're interested.

jttegx has a spectacular aura about jttegx has a spectacular aura about
jack up the rear of the car, place jackstands, start up car and listen carefully where the noise is occuring. wear a set of thick working gloves and hold the muffler so it wont vibrate as much, do the same for the rear sway bar, or anything that may be in contact with the piping/muffler. be careful not to get burned

and the obvious tips, check the bolts/nuts/washers if they are tightned

goodluck

I'd be REALLY careful if you're going to attempt to match your oem muffler with your 2.25" piping. You's have to make sure that the adapter tapers as gradually as possible, otherwise you'll get a lot of turbulence as the air goes from larger pipe to smaller, which will cause you to lose more power than if you had nice smooth airflow. Turbulence is not your friend.
I'd do like these other people are suggesting and try to fix the problem.

hahaha! I know exactly what you mean about the silencer lookin gay...I attempted to put the silencer on once and almost puked when I saw it installed. For health reasons (excessive vomiting) I had to remove it and deal with the loudness....

I have the flowmaster axle back. It is quite and deep mellow sounding. I love it!! I for one was not wanting to sound like the typical honda with the fart can and the super raspy sound. I wanted to be diff. and it is what I have. I have a cell phone that takes movies, I could try to let you hear it for yourself. I think I can make it work. Good luck either way!!
