Towing Capacity ?

Does anyone know the actual towing capacity on our cars ?

The manual says that our cars are not designed to tow a trailer, and doing so can void our warranty (pg 194), but I have seen a few civics on the highway towing a SeaDoos and Dirt Bikes on trailers.

I'd like to tow my SeaDoo with my civic, but I think my car would probably need some upgrades to Suspension, Transmission, and Radiator, to handle the extra weight and heat associated with the extra load.

Anyone have any details on this?

same car i have.... i wouldnt do it if i were you. youd put it through too much stress i think especially if u meet up with a steep hill climb. and youd probably have to find someone to weld the hitch to your car.
either way good luck

02boostlessCIV has a spectacular aura about02boostlessCIV has a spectacular aura about
2600 pounds with brakes
1100 pounds without brakes
what this means is that the trailer is either equipped with brakes or not.

Most jet ski trailers will not have brakes. So, 1100lb.

I would still recommend not towing anything with a civic. Get a truck.

850 pounds is total vehicle capacity... that includes weight of driver so hed have about 700 or less to work with. i think the number increases because hes towing it not throwing it in his trunk (less strain on tires and suspension)

then again i have no idea

1100 lbs... anyone know why this number is not quoted in any NorthAmerican documentation? Are there any powertrain diffs between NA models and UK models ?

My trailer does not have brakes, so I'm gonna have to do the math on my SeaDoo plus the trailer, But I'm not sure I trust my civic to do it, as there are some Monster Hills on the way to my cottage.

Here is a link to the hitch I was going to get, It is rated to 2500 lbs
http://www.hitchesonline.com/honda_cl1_civic_01.htm

edit: corrected the link

FWD is not meant for pulling

How often are you going sea dooing? Rental cars are dirty cheap you could rent your self a car van or truck and tug your trailer safely. Perhaps you should consider storing your sea doo at your cottage? With neighbors.

You must know somebody with a pickup, you live barrie, everybodys got a trailer hitch, just offer em some free time on the sea doo to tug ya there.

don't do it. now if you were going to get like a little trailer to take kids toys, and that sort of thing you may be able to tow with it, but Seadoo come on man, say you're going 60 towing it, gotta stop fast you're gonna have a seadoo poking out your windshield, not to mention the highway patrol will probably pull you over, if you can afford a Seadoo, buy an old beater truck prefereably with a v8.
