plastic intake mani

Just installed a cai on my 01 LX. The intake manifold caught my eye. It appears to be made of plastic or some sort of composite. Has anyone found a performance intake mani that will help the little D17 breathe better? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

unfortunately, there aren't any mass-produced aftermarket intake manifolds in production for our cars at the moment ... T_T;;;

No, nothin against it, but it can't be giving optimal air/fuel flow to the head. There is almost always room for improvement.

depends on how you look at it.

If you had a metal intake manifold, it would heat up along with everything else in the engine bay, thus increasing the temperature of the air going into the engine.

The plastic intake manifold doesn't heat up as fast or as much.

I know whee your coming from, but plastic does have its advantages, as cambo pointed out. Not only in being cheap to manufatcure but it also allows you to do things in design that cast aluminum wont. There has yet to be anything aftermarket that has been proven to beat stock performance.

Someone made their own aluminum IM and it performed better than stock. Gained alot more torque and some hp, but cost over 1k. He had equipment and materials tho.

OK, if plastic is better, then why aren't we seeing performance plastic intake mani's? Earlier I read a post that said a modified b16 intake mani would fit. Anyone heard anything like that.

A metal manifold will heat up much faster and hotter because it touches the head. It's just better technology I guess to use plastic. Still don't know why there's HOT coolant running through the TB.

Yeah, but do you think the plastic will last as well as aluminum, say after a few thousand heat cycles and couple hundred thousand miles?
