Temperature Rating of Plastic Engine Parts

I want to paint my valve cover and some other plastic parts with Teflon Moly Coating. This coating comes in several colors. I have some that is a "stainless steel" color. When you spray this on, then you bake it in an oven at 400 degrees F. for 30 minutes. It gives a nice sort of grainy coating that you can leave as is or polish with steel wool to get a nice gloss. The coating is really duarable and much better than paint. I have used it on gun parts.

The only problem is, will the parts hold up to the 30 minute baking at 400 degrees F?

Have fun scraping plastic goo off the bottom of your oven if you try. Actually it'd probably just blister or warp, but thats my guess

That's why I asked about temp resistance. Some of those parst must see some hight temps in the engine compartment. I just don't know which ones.

I'n not too concerned about brittle. More about melting or deforming.

I've painted lots of gun parts that are plasic, no problem.

My buddy painted a Mossberg pump shotgun forend and it melted.

I think it depends on the whether the plastic is themo molded, or made by a chemical reaction or laid up like fiberglass. I recon I could just buy spares just in case. I figured someone here would know though.

Try to get in touch with a dealership. Sounds like that stuff would work well as long as the plastic holds up.

I'll do that. If they know the material, I can go from there.

This Teflon Moly makes a great coating. Looks much better than paint.
