Question What the hell is this noise?!

When I am in between 3000 and 3500rmps my engine makes like a lound vibrating noise or something. Pretty high pitched. You drop below 3000 or go over 3500 and it immediately goes away. It sounds a lot louder when it is really cold and when it is hot out it sounds like it is totally gone? What the hell is it? I've had that same noise for a long time. Sounds like a ricey intake noise almost. Only does it sometimes. I never figured it out.

I heard it on my car before, a few times when it was cold. Never hot.

I just figured It was some vibration that came from the vtec engaging, or maybe not deciding to be on or off because of the cold? Maybe it is the vtec NOT engaging because of the cold, and the engine gets a slight out of breath sound starting about that rpm? Maybe above 3500 vtec is forced on no matter what as a saftey thing so one could um... accelerate if they really needed to.

I noticed you have an EX as do I (with vtec), and civicHX01 has the super econo vtec. Anyone with a VP, LX or DX (non-vtec civic) ever hear this noise?

I am 100% stock btw

A bold huh? I guess i could just take it to a shop and have them check it out. I'll probably take it in on monday. I'll let you guys know what the final verdict is on that freaky noise.

i have an LX and i got the same noise, i had it before i put my pulleys on and after i put them on its still the same so i dont think its my pulleys, i've been told it was either that i need a valve adjustment or something w/ the exhaust up front like header or heat shield .. im still up for more suggestions cause i dont know exaclty what it is and i dont have the money to go have something fixed if thats not what it is.

how many people have had this problem?? maybe we can complain to honda and get a recall or something for the people who have it and are still totally stock

i started hearing it about 60000 miles, i had my timing belt replaced the same time i put my pulleys on bout 2 weeks ago at 85000 miles, but i still hear it .. like a quick tapping noise.

i'll try to get a free diagnostic from a shop and then i'll post what they said it was

vibrating noise when accelerating.. most likely a motor mount.. check for this by holding the brakes and loading the engine in a gear, and have someone check out hte engine rocking back and forth

usually the front mount is busted.. ive replaced mine twice then i put energy poly inserts in

Check the hood. With the hood closed, raise the front up and down. If there's play, lower the bracket. If bracket is as low as it can go, dremel the holes longer at the top.
