i had assumed most of you already knew that...the a/c acts like a dehumidifier and removes moisture from the air...that's why from teh factory it comes this way where it'll automatically come on when defogging since it expediates the process.
however here's where this diy comes in handy is when you've finished defogging (i always leave a/c on to speed it up) and you don't want it to re-fog...cuz the temperature of the car is still quite diff from the outside...you can turn off the a/c and just have the air blowing...while you get a bit of power back...

I knew that...But your right I think most of us are doing this so we can turn the AC off after it's finished defogging.
the most beautiful part about this trick is that the AC still comes on automatically when you switch over to defrost, but you can turn it off if you want. it would be awful to not have this ability. i have never used my defrost having bought the car in late may (i live in AZ), but will need it in a month or two. i just went out and ran the sequence... i already have one mother, why do i need another?
I'm also very happy I have the option to turn off my A/C now after the window has been defogged. I hated switching back to up/down vents after the window had been defogged. It may speed things up, but I don't want A/C on all the time. I have to beat that Celica off the line.
oh man, i just did this, and this by far is the best and cheapest diy your self, to add fastest too!! im so excited now, hated that stupid a/c on when defrosting mirror!!!
