I'm Moving!! San Diego here I come!

Watch out So Cal, here i come I am finally getting out of this god forsaken city! I am gonna take a little drive down I-10. Its gonna be hard to get lost. I hop on it here and take it all the way down till i hit I-8. I am moving to San Diego for school. I have a friend out there right now. Anyways, if you guys could give me a "whats up?" with San Diego. Where the best places to live are for the most moderate prices etc. I am looking for a place kind of centralized. I really don't know how San diego is set up, but i'm looking for a 1 bedroom apartment kinda close to SDSU, the beaches, and if there is a big restaurant district as I will probably be working as a waiter while i'm in school. Are there any really bad ass restaurants you would suggfest where i'd make a lot of money?

Any info you guys can throw me would be awesome. Thanks alot guys!

ryan

What's up dude- I'm in San Diego. Sounds like your in the College Area. It's OK, I live in Pacific Beach, right next to the bay. San Diego has all these "sections" i.e. Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, college area, Linda Vista, the list goes on and on. Once you get here you'll figure it out. My girlfriend works at a restaurant but had a hard time finding a waitress job at first. It's kinda rough getting a good paying job out here. Everything is pretty expensive, but it's so worth it, this place is the best. So many hot chicks, tons of stuff to do. Let me know when you get here, I'll show ya around. Later-

Just try not to get in a long lease, or a lease at all. There are so many sections/complexes/prices you'll have to check out in person when you get here. San Diego is really huge, but the "sections" are next to each other. Mexico is only 15 miles from here too.

it's really expensive to live by the beach.

i would think that you could make a lot of cash working in the gas lamp.

Any place by the beach is gonna run u some cash. If ur going to SDSU and want to work in a restaruant I suggest u move into the North Park area its reasonably priced. Not to far from downtown/gas lamp area. U could also work in hillcrest there are a lot of restaruants there. Any where really close SDSU u would probably have to move in with someone who already has a place. There are always people looking for roommates.

I'm not looking for too close to sdsu. like i said, 10-15 min. at the most though.. anyone else have any input? oh, and do you know if your girlfriend needed a resume to get a job as a waitress? Some areas are like that, not here though.

North Park 2 coast is about 10 mins, maybe less. The Gaslamp district is downtown, it's the "dress up and go out to eat" section of downtown San Diego. You'll see what gaslamps are when you get here. My GF didn't need a resume to get a waitress job. I don't think you need a resume if your only looking to wait tables. If your not surte where you want to live, there are hotel/apts that charge by the week. You could stay there first, or even in a hostle until you decide where to live. Let me know if you want me to get you some info on them.

Yeah I have thought about moving to SD or LA around there but with this job market right now I can't get a job in my field anywhere. But I hear good things about SD, but the usual expensive, just like California in general. Phoenix is getting about the same way when I moved out of there, but CALI is really nice bet the girls are really good looking and nicer than the AZ girls LOL

Hey Rhyno,

I live 10 min’s for SDSU. I live in San Carlos. Just north of SDSU on the other side of I-8.

A couple weeks ago they finished some condo apartment type stuff a couple blocks from me. They have like two buildings done and in another couple weeks they will have the other 3 buildings done. It’s right behind a grocery store.

As for a place to work, Mission Valley has a ton of restaurants. It right off the I-8, east of 125. and on the other side of 125 is another big area called Fashion Valley. I am sure you could get a job down there. It is like a 20 - 25 min drive. If you want something closer, you could always find something on Mission Gorge Road. Its about 10 min north from me (20 from SDSU)

The next time I drive buy that new complex I will see about prices.

Here are some helpful links:
Places for Rent
A list of Restaurants in Mission Valley
The location of place I was talking about. (Red star is the place. SDSU in lower left corner in light purple. red thing next to the star is a grocery store and a drug store. Mission Gorge is in the upper left corner)

In case you haven't figured out yet - SD Rocks!

BTW: Gasslamp is downtown and yes its like "the strip". Also stay north of SDSU. around and south of SDSU is just ugly. Streets are torn up and bums at every corner. Lock you doors and roll up your windows. Lemon Grove is good but I think to east for what your looking for.

one more thing. The morning traffic goes west on the 8 and the evening traffic goes east on the 8. Stay away from the 5. Its always bad.

See ya around

Sure. Glad I could help

BTW: they have a deal going on that you move in for $99. None of that downpayment and first and second month stuff. I don't know how long it will last though.

whatever you can find out about that place would be great. a name and number would be helpful to. let me know what you thik of it as far as atmosphere. being able to move in for 99 bucks would be supreme. It would be great if I had a place before i move out there. of course, i'd still want to see it for myself. biggest problem i am having right now is my dog. she is only 10 lbs. but its insane the a,mount of places that don't take pets. here everywhere takes pets, ...for a price

I got off work late, so I couldn't talk to the people - but this is what I know:

The place is called "Canyon View Apartments"
Phone number: (619) 464-4144
Email: mgr-mnt@archstonesmith.com (it may be a "_" instead of "-", but try "-" first)

1 and 2 Bedroom
washer and dryer connections
Gas cooking
gated

I don't know anymore about prices. Just the move in for 99 thing.

Let me know what you find out. If you need anything else don't hesitate. I could always use an excuse to drive my civic around town.

Hope it works out

Dude, my girls sister is an apartment manager for alot out in east county SD. I will check with her about what is avail. I would suggest where I live, but we just filled our vacancy...

Everything here is expensive.

Dont live south of 94 & north of 54 (I believe thats the one down in National City). Be weary of south of 54 as well. East county, OK, but lots of tweekers & some bad parts in El Cajon & Spring Valley.

Gaslamp is awesome for resturaunts, but they are yuppie type. Mission Valley is more of the everyday waiter type as well as old town.

College area is cool, dont live west of 54th street.. Its gets pretty ghetto down that way till like 30th st. Anything within about 6 blocks fron the intersection of College Ave & El Cajon Blvd should be ok.

Mission Hills is cool, as well as Hillcrest (h0m0sexual neighborhood).

PM me if you have any questions. I have lived here in SD for 23 years. I know it pretty well.
