Rough Idle

Hey I was talkin to a homie on 7thGen today and seems we have a similar problem with rough idle'ing... for some reason Im not idling high or anything, just rough, and it gets loud like every couple minutes for like 30 secs or something. Ive heard alot of people with something similar. Replaced the battery thinking it may be that, no. Checked my spark plugs, good there. And i dont know what the problem could be. Honda doesnt seem to know either.

Rough idle can be caused by a number of things. Iridium plugs will improve it, but you may also want to check your ground wire connections and maybe even upgrade them. There's one to the tranny and chassis, and another one from the engine to chassis (silver I think). Make sure connections aren't corroded.

no sounds like her problem goes beyond spark plugs and grounding wires, especially if she hasn't touched those from the factory. I'd start at the engine/tranny mounts, then work my way to the ecu

You could try resetting the ecu by pulling the battery for 5 mins, then reconnecting and just let the car idle for 10 mins. Then turn it off and back on to go drive.

But check the ground wire (silver one). It grounds the ECU.

Good idea. It may be engine mounts or something that's causing vibration. Make sure the plugs are torqued to 14 ft/lbs.

Do you play your radio alot with your car off? When you car starts does it do it, or do you have to drive a couple miles before it happens?

I know with my car it always runs at atleast 14.3-14.4 volts (up to 14.7) when i start the car, but it will drop down after a few minutes of driving and playing the radio.

The civic battery is weak as heck though...I would try upgrading your grounds...and maybe think about a better battery...and always turn your car on if you are using any of the electronics in the car.
