Originally posted by FALKEN since i have a sedan, can i drive in the HOV lane (by myself during peak hours) if i were to install a 'hybrid' emblem on my car??
how could the police tell whether or not it was a true hybrid??
First thing, you DONT have a hybrid so you SHOULDNT be in the carpool lane during peak hours anyway...but thats an integrity issue that you'll have to work out with that little voice in your head.
As for how to spot a hybrid I'll look into that. Do the engines look the same as ours? I've never seen one.

If you were to drive in the carpool lane and get pulled over for being a single driver and claimed that you have a hybrid...if the officer knows anything about civics he would see that its obviously not one. If he were to look at the engine he would see this:
It doesnt look anything like our engine.
Other than that and unless the officer does some digging they may not find out if it should be a hybrid or not.
Ive never seen a hybrid with a modified exhaust system either.
I think we all know that the ticket for a carpool lane violation is really really heavy.

Not just that... although you can make it look like a Hybrid (emblems, front bumber, side mirrors, rear spoiler, interior trim, etc.), all the cop needs to do is run your plate and lic# and voila your car is registered as a plain petrol car. This if he pulls you over of course you'd be found out, but if you made it look exactly alike then maybe not.
i thought hybrids still couldnt drive in that lane cause they use gas all the time. only if you have a Alternative fuel plate you can drive in that lane......like propane, or all electric. because it still relies on gas all the time its not considered alternative fuel....this also goes for those "electric hondas" the ones with the side skirts...dealer told me theres not a tax break or special plate for those cause they still use gas some of the time...i could be wrong but thats what i thought. if you wanna cheat the carpool lane just put a kid seat in there with the sunshade up like theres a kid in there.

Ughh....I got nailed in the carpool lane in the first 24 hours that I owned my civic. Unless a $384 ticket fits in your budget..DO NOT RISK IT. I took Driving school for $100 which equally sucked and monopolized an entire Saturday. Nowdays my car is completely tinted including the whole front window (Yeah I know) but hey it looks cool.

I carpool with my wife in the HOV lane on the I-10 to work everyday. Earlier this week I saw a small pickup truck in front of me adjsuting something to sit up in his passenger seat. Every mile or so it would begin to fall over and he would sit it up again. I thought it was hilarious that someone would go to this extreme!
My wife told me a mortician was pulled over by Highway Patrol a while ago and he was using a cadaver as his passenger in the HOV lane!
