Ok one of the guys I work w/ is the most overly confident a$$hole on the plannet and Im sick of listening to him rave about his POS dented up car, So I agreed to race him in hopes that he'll shut up. He drives a 1990 VW jetta w/ the 1.8L single cam 8 valve engine. All he has in it is a k&n air filter and a slightly thinner head gasket (I doubt it raises the comp. very much) He also has advanced his timing a little. I have a 2001 ex w/ a HP racing 4 into 1 header, a HP racing midpipe , a custom AC revolution rear section, AEM CAI , and a well tuned V-AFC (I havent changed the VTEC just the fuel curve) not to mention many suspension and weight reduction mods. Im so sick of hearing how "that pepboys muffler" on the back of my car doesnt make it any faster. He thinks that all i did to my car was slap on a APC muffler, and put "pepboys $30 intake" on my car...ok Im done venting now, thursday after work should be fun...oh by the way hes putting his whole paycheck up against me.
edit: I won all three runs I killed him, by the end of second gear I had him by 2 car lengths. The first run he made an excuse that he thought he saw a car coming, then the second time was exactly the same ut he had no excuse that time. The third time I agreed to let him spray just for fun and I still had him by a car length by the end of third....Of course being the a$$hole that he is he made up excuses and said it wasnt fair for him to have to pay, but thats allright b/c we had plenty of spectators from work come out so his life at work will suck for a while

You should be able to beat him, my friend has a 1989 jetta and swap a gti engine and my friend in his 99 sir kills him theyre both pretty stock except the sir has a catback.
i hope you kick some VW a$$. even tho i am also a huge fan of volkswagon, especially the old school models, i hate people like that jagoff you are discribing. good luck!

we agreed no n2o, we have to use street tires and pump gas he even let me "inspect his car" besides like I said es ignorant Iv heard that he never ran better than 18's from the other guys I work w/
you should be able to rock him. Doesn't seem like 18's is in any way a threat. Stock you'd beat him (if he's running 18s) Either way, with your mods it shouldn't be a problem, good luck anyway though man

I'm curious as to the power gains with the Vtec controller. I have a stock 2k1 civic ex, i am thinking of selling it and getting something a little more modable, but with headers and the controller, intake, exhaust, what kind of hp can be made? Also how safe/difficult is it to install/adjust
