Hey.....i'm horribly confused....I just beat a 5.0 Stang? We were on the highway, cruising about 60-65...he looks over at me and starts honking and making bug eyes at me....so I thought...what the hell, go for it. Downshifted to 4th, mashed it to the floor.....I hit the fuel cutoff at about 120 MPH....look next to me, and I see him slightly behind me....I shifted to 5th, and then, all of a sudden I hear a loud bang, a puff of black smoke comes out his tailpipes...and he puts the hazards on and goes to the shoulder. Best I can figure, is his engine was messed up, cause I dont think I should have won that race...what do you guys think?

Ya. 3rd is good to 80
I have a pathetic reason for not shifting down to 3rd....my trunk is in a phase of construction, and my sub box is sitting free on the wood support for my trunk bottom....if I accelerate too fast the box slides into my tailgate...and I dont wanna f**k up my subs...lol....soon it'll be in a custom enclosure, and I dont have to worry
Anways, told you I had a pathetic reason...lol. On a side note, since i dont feel like starting a new thread, I called my local racing shop....$3,000 for a custom turbo install...includes a before and after dyno run, intercooler, wastegate, turbo timer and boost monitor in the cabin...all that crap....donno if it's really worth it though....I dont wanna redo my internals, and I understand you only get like a 40-60 HP boost on stock internals....
Yah you should have dropped it to 3rd.... i don't know, but maybe his car was messed up. i've never messed with those 5.0's, but if i did, it'd have to be from a roll.. those things can KILL our civics. good job though!
You beat a 5.0? Why don't you go smoke another bone, cause it will NEVER happen.... Even on N2O.... Either that or the driver was an 85 year old elderly woman....
I don't mean to hate, but c'mon....
Stay with racing Kia's and Cavalier's.................
"driver skills" have no relevence in a rolling start race. No launching is required. The only "skill" invloved is finding the correct gear (if you have a manual tranny) and flooring it.
That being said...
either;
A) His car broke
B) He wasnt racing
or
C) It was a rebadged 4 banger.

Re-read my post...in the end I stated that his car made a loud bang, and a puff of black smoke came out the tailpipes....that means that something was probably wrong with his car....I never said it made sense....I dont think I should have won....so he either gave up, something was wrong, or it was a rebadged LX like everyone else says....I think the old LX's were like 130-140 HP....and those cars were kinda heavy......
the LX was also available with the ford 302 V8 (5.0 engine.. which is actually 4.995 l). This was FASTER then the GT because it has the SAME engine, but without the heavy ass body kit.

I thought the LX was the 4 cylinder model only? I thought the V8's only came in GT's, Saleens, and Cobras. In either case, I obviously know he should have won.....my moms van is faster than my car. But I won...... ::shrugs::
5.0 are awesome. I wanna either buy an old 5.0 or CRX and dump money into the engine and make a sleeper beater. You got balls for even trying to race one though. I usually try to avoid races against cars with more than twice my displacement.

Nope, the LX notch abck mustangs with the 5.0's in my opinion was one of Fords best cars.
