nowhere in your original post did you say anything about it being impressive or not, you merely challenged someone to find engines similar in size with similar torque output, and I found several. it may be impressive, but obviously it's nothing special. sometimes, you should think before you speak out.
Reading comprehension owns you. Someone earlier mentioned that the tC's torque output was NOT impressive. I was merely setting him straight by comparing the torque output of the tC to other engines of the same class. I got my facts straight... maybe some of you should actually think before spouting out BS.
The topic of this thread was about the civic vs. scion tc. It's totally believable that a 5speed civic beat an auto tC. What there is to be proud about, i do not know. Just take it as this: The civic was not made to go fast. Its D17 was not engineered with performance coming to mind. Neither is the scion. However, as fast as one can mod the civic to be, one can always mod the scion to be faster. 2.4 DOHC > 1.7 SOHC...it's as simple as that
haha...geez, too many sensitive civic owners in this thread.

so the almighty toyota 2.4L is more impressive than other 2.3-2.5L engines? given the number of engines with similar displacement putting down the same, slightly worse or slightly better numbers, hardly. that engine has also been doing that for years in the camry. apparently, reading comprehension owns you, too.
Well me and a couple of friends got together... and we all raced eachother.. here were my results
BY THE WAY
2 door EX
Catback Exhaust
Revo Short Shifter
I LOST TO:
Integra GSR
I WON TO:
Scion tC ( we stayed the same from 1 and 2nd gear.. then i pulled off)
1993 Prelude (H23a.. took it the whole way)
Accord (I4 1994 manual)
Colora Type S
This is the original post. He was just listing for fun a couple cars he raced that day. He also later noted that he raced an auto tC. He beat it, so now we all know a 5 speed civic can beat an auto tC. That is it.
Now your logic that a civic is crap because no matter how much you build it up, it will lose to a modded tC is crap. I'm not saying it's not true, but your ideology is crap.
So lets say a turbo civic guy is just minding his own business at a stop light and some ass hole tC owner starts revving at the line. You know the end of that story. The whole point is to make your car faster then expected than other cars in the street. So now the guy is faster than every stock tC out there, which is much more than modded tCs. Now he can go out make most tC owners feel bad.

Let's see, how is my reasoning considered "crap"?
N/A
2.4l DOHC > 1.7l SOHC
Turbo
2.4l DOHC > 1.7l SOHC
does everyone here lack common sense? Because it sure seems like it.
Exactly, so the tC's engine is comparable to the torque output found in many of the other engines in its class. You misunderstood me. I wasn't saying that the tc's tq output was impressive. I was saying that it's not unimpressive. Notice the difference. Gosh, i feel like i'm teaching a 2nd grade reading comprehension class over here.
"2.4 litters of displacement and only 163lbs of torque NOT TO IMPRESSIVE". (bgoetz, pg.1)
"Only 163lbs of tq?" Find me another naturally aspirated 2.4l 4cylinder engine which makes more/comparable tq, then talk. The only one i can think of is the K24 found in the TSX which makes 166lbs tq.

no, you weren't, Senator Kerry.
