How does AWD work? Does it apply power to the rear wheels once your front wheels slip on a turn allowing you to poer on a turn? If this is the case, just because you have AWD I don't think your safer then someone with FWD.
My tips for winter driving include
========================
-Buy a set of good winter tires (Mine were a smaller size than my stock tires)
-Keep a shovel in the trunk in case you get stuck.
-Keep windshield wiper fluid full
-Keep a big distance between you and anybody with a BMW or SUV. These vehicle owners tend to be under impression they are invincible and winter weather doesn't affect them.
- Do not brake while turning, I like to give steady throttle on a turn.
- I drive slower in those conditions, and smooth. No sudden braking or abrupt
acceleration.
- If I do slip I stop applying throttle and keep steering in direction I want to go in and throttle once I've regained traction. I do not brake if I start slipping.

awd works by supplying power to all the wheels, some awd cars have limited slip differentials, which basically when a wheel slips, it diverts more power to the remaining wheels
it seems to work well in the winter cause when u turn the front wheels slip, and the rear wheels sorta emit power so you start to fishtail or oversteer, therefore the rear wheels start to slip, and power goes back to the front wheels...
when you find yourself sliding take yer foot off the gas but dont hit the breaks, gently turn into the slide and then try to correct, once yer car straightens out then try the breaks.... cranking the wheel and jacking on the breaks will just send you spinning..
best advice ever though.. find an snow filled empty parking lot and just drive like an idiot for a lil while.. sounds stupid but it will teach you at what point yer car will lose traction, how to correct and get yerself out of slides.. and its just so much fun.. but dont get yer rmps up too high cuz if you suddenly get traction you can snap an axle.. i learned that with my pos 86 mazda.. good thing it was only a $200 beater
also use yer floor mats to get traction when you get stuck somewhere.. if you dont wanna get yer car all snowy just throw a few trashbags in yer glove box so you can wrap them up when yer done...
kittylitter is also a great thing to have with you but not as good as rock salt..
DO NOT USE THAT BRUSH ON YER CAR.. all the sand and salt thats under the snow will scratch the crap out of everything.. just let yer car run for a few minutes then push it off by hand..
and when you wash yer car in the winter.. leave it running.. and just to play it safe try to have someone waiting in the car so they can push the doors open if they happen to freeze shut.. cuz you will rip yer handles off trying to pull them open...
i found in my civic that if u start out in first atleast get moving a little bit then throw it in 2nd it has less torque than first less spinning of the wheels thats what i do i stay out of first gear as much as possible
I LOVEEEEEEEE SNOW i live in Montreal Canada and its tUUNS of fun i just got my civic 04 coupe and and it ruins my old 93 accord, handbrake turns everywhere! p.s i just nailed the 360 yesterday !
BTW....for those who got Falken Ziex-512.......are they good in Snow?
i mean.....my falken is pratically brand new....however, i think it skids/slips quite alot of time.......that also means, the ABS on my ex keeps engaging every time i brake on 1~3" of snow....
is that normal?
i got hawk hps and powerslot for the brake setup.....

brake mods help a ton on dry pavement, but if you think it will help in the snow, you are mistaken.. well sometimes it does.. but it makes the abs work that much harder
as for those falkens, they should do ok, but getting a set of tires for snow use would be the best option, or even just get 2 snow tires for the front
Thanks for the info mang. I could really use it down here in MS because whenever I get up early during the winter time, the roads around here are frosted. So its sort of like driving on ice or snow if you wanna say. But once again, thanks for a few pointers. Hopefully it will help me later on.
Ya the snow is tuff on our 7th gennys. When it snowed up here in washington My car spun out and the rear tire hit a curb and the tire was indented. Cost me a grand to fix it. WATCH OUT FOR ICE!
