cool diy /w underbody neons. even better if you have alarm or keyless entry.

got some neons today for my civic and installed them and instead of hooking them up directly to the battery and the neon's on and off switch, i did something different.

i hooked them in parellel up to the left parking light and voila... you have your neons flash each time you lock/unlock your door and plus have them instantly turn on when you switch the headlights on. no more damn switches. i made a switch that bypasses the neons just in case i cant drive while neons are on (e.g. some states). now to prevent the fuse from blowing, replace with a 15 amp fuse (300 watts).

will be there tomorrow when it is bright outside... fairly easy diy to do. from a skill level 1-10, i rate it as a 1, like the throttle body heater bypass.

1st diy without pics

things needed:

flashlight
some speaker wire
flat head screw driver
wire cutter/stripper
soldering iron
radioshack lil switch (any small one should do)
electric tape

1. turn you car on, turn steering wheel all the way over to the left

2. on the front right wheel, pop the little fastener out with you flat head screw driver.

3. while spreading the wheelwell and the bumper apart, reach your hand in and locate the right parking light and unplug it

4. 1st hardest part: with the parking light wire unplugged and in your hand, you will see an outer insulator wrapped around an insulated red and black wire. (REMEMBER RED IS POSITIVE, BLACK IS NEGATIVE!) unwrap the insulator and until the red and black wires are exposed, put a little cut in both with the wire cutter on both of them to expose the metal wire inside.

5. once you get the insulation off a little exposing the bare wire, you can solder like 2 feet of speaker wire to both of them. (dont forget which is negative and positive)

6. guide the speaker wire to the + and - to the transformer.

7. strip the end of the positive wire, connect it to one part of the switch and connect the other side of the switch to the transformer wire leading to the transformer

*the switch is to turn off the neons just in case you cant have them on while driving. it will be located under the hood.

8. strip the end of the negative wire, connect to the transformer directly.

9. test circuit out. if working , solder all joints and wrap with electric tape if not working, inspect the joints and/or make sure the positive and negative arent touching. (short)

10. whalla, now you have keyless entry activated neons. and when you turn on your headlights, they should turn on automatically.
