Re: Day 6 of Install (pg 8)- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
That's because I have JDM injectors and you have USDM injectors....
LOL - Travis! You're killing me! Those are the coil packs! Which of course go over the spark plugs through the holes in the valve cover. The injectors and fuel rail are sandwiched (in an injector plate) between the back of the head and the intake manifold. But yes you are correct on the AEM fuel rail.
Here's a clearer picture. That's the throttle body there.

Re: Day 6 of Install (pg 8)- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
that used to be my block. that was the first motor that came in my car. i hydrolocked it at 35000 miles and bent 2 rods and 1 wedged against the block. rather than rebuilding it, i opted for an a2. i sold that clock to someone last winter and its been making its way around the forum ever since. there arent any other problems with the block. never been overheated or anything. if youre using aftermarket rods it has to be notched anyway. i just gave you a jump start on that.

foos...my car came to life today.
vtec head swap - complete
k-pro install - complete
exedy stage 1 and flywheel - complete
motor dropped back in - complete
slim fans installed and wired - complete
i have TONS of tiny things to do..like swapping the k-pro board into the OEM ECU housing, putting my dash and front splash shields in. Turbo cant go in until my boost solenoid, return conversion, install the larger injectors, t-bolt clamps and downpipe get here/made, etc.. BUT THE CAR RUNS AND GETS ME FROM A TO B FTW!! NO MORE BLOWN HEADGASKET FTW!

Juice - thanks for the info, that helps a lot. It didn't look too abad nd since I'll be getting it sleeved anyway, the machine shop will make those marks go away.
Good stuff Edwin! Its amazing all the little shit that goes into these installs. Glad you're running around in your Civic again. I've been driving an Audi A4 (one of my troopie's is deployed and let me watch the car as long as I would drive it) and I hate it. Loose, sloppy POS that's already falling apart and its a 2000. Its funny that my much cheaper Honda is a better car IMO. Can't wait to hear when you baby is boosted again!

Re: Day 6 of Install (pg 8)- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
speedfoos, how much more do you have left to go? Can't wait to see the ride all completed, they won't know what to do over there in the UK when ur ripping up the streets lol. I had to drive my car down to my good friends shop to get the radiator support moved back into it's place so the hood would shut, well i didn't have a front bumper on the car when i drove it and everyone was looking at me like i'm an idiot hahah
Re: Day 6 of Install (pg 8)- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
Dude that's funny. No front bumper, open downpipe and cruisin' the streets. I hope you were wearing a dirty wife beater and Mack Truck hat and blaring some Eminem to boot!
As for what I have left....here's my checklist. My welder (Paul) still hasn't gotten to the exhaust yet. They're putting a new floor in at his shop so he's been busy. I'll post what I got done today after I eat something.

Re: Day 6 of Install (pg 8)- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
And here comes <drumroll>
Day 7
I got boo boos today. I have no idea where I cut myself. I cried like Alpha did after he watched City of Angels.
So I ticked a couple other things off the list today. After stopping to see my welder and discovering he hasn't done up my exhaust yet I decided I really didn't need to hurry that much. Open DPs are cool and all but I have a reputation to maintain as a consummate military professional. Plus my wife says that everyday is Earth Day. See, she was practicing being a wood nymph today.
I think she's quite good at it.
Anyway, futzed with the injectors and fuel rail a little more and I'm set on the mounting and depth now. I didn't stud them, I just pulled the studs out and replaced them with some allen-head bolts and Loctite'd them in. That and I used a D17 and an RSX spacer to make them the right height. Much gooder.
Pulled the old oil pan off. Its dirty. Like your girl. Look at that shiny one that I polished up while I was jonesing for something to do when all my turbo stuff still wasn't here.
Its so nice and shiny I almost didn't want to put on my dirty old engine block, next to my dirty old transmission. Kind of like kicking around town in a new pair of Docs but wearing the same jeans and wife beater that you wore during that engine swap three days ago. Oh well.
I polished up one of the mounting brackets:
And decided I didn't like it so I painted them both black. My engine mounts are also black and I will also paint the accessory mounts black too. Why? Because I can.

Re: Day 6 of Install (pg 8)- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
Day 7 cont'd
Here's what your motor looks like when its not wearing pants. It probably looks a lot better than you do when you're not wearing pants.
I shake my fist at you, crappy, weak rod bolts! <Shakes fist>. Why do you stretch after 9 psi, forcing us boostheads to spend gobs of money and time to replace you and your weak little sisters?!
Let's just cover those back up and not think about how much its going to cost to remedy that little situation.
An hour and half of scraping, surface prep, and paint drying later, the oil pan is back on! Yay! Its a silver oil pan! With red stuff to make sure the oil doesn't come back out after you put it in! My flywheel cover got a fresh coat of paint too.
Monkeyed around a little more and decided I didn't want to cut myself where I hacked apart the radiator crossmember Hmmmmmm. What to do?
Looked around the garage a little bit and spotted a short, fairly useless bit of 8 gauge ground wire. Ziiiipp!!! She's naked now!
Much gooder. I also decided to stud the wastegate mount instead of using bolts. "Why would you do that foos?"
You may asking yourself that very question.
Because I didn't have enough 8mm bolts of the right length to slap the turbo assembly together. But I did have these two 8mm studs. So I used them and I think it'll be a little easier on the WG and dumptube install and wiggle around.
That's all for today folks. All this actually took a while, what with the painting and drying and surface prep of the pan, so on and so forth. I know this install is dragging on and on, but I'd like to think I'm doing it right, and plus its gets that little bit of extra love as I go along!

Re: Day 6 of Install (pg 8)- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
Glad this thread helps you out a little Travis. Even if you're not boosting, it helps seeing the different parts of the engine that's in your car to know how everything works. I'm a visual person and need to see things to get a better understanding of how they work. Books just don't cut it for me.
Oh and to make myself feel better about my exhaust not being here. I ordered a better boost gauge from atpturbo! It's sexy, says Garrett (like my turbo does) and I'll actually need it. The one I have now only goes to 15 psi. This one goes to 30. Gotta leave room for growth!

Re: Day 7 of Install (pg 9)- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
^^ true life. you were killing us on that coil pack/injector mix up.. that was hilarious. but yea man the basics of a motor and whats inside are sooo much easier to understand and identify with a visual.
nice job foos ur mocking it up pretty good. that extra lovin will pay off in the long run. but let me get sumthing striahgt. basically after its all said and done for this stage of the turbo set up. u will eventually have to do alot of this over when ur ready to put the new block in right?....
