Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
Oh ye of little faith, you forget I'm a veritable mechanical genius! I'll make this pump work!
Ricer. Uhuh. Here's a phrase for you, "I was street racing a Nissan in my rockin' stockin', auto tranny, Civic" Please tell me you weren't blaring the Linkin Park/Jay-Z compilation album as well Jose!
You'll be OK if you swap a D17 into your new Si March. Then we'll still be cool.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
Meh. Head studs didn't arrive today like I though they would. Oh well. Gotta get some stuff done around the house this weekend anyway. I think I'm going to fix the one spangled bolt hole on my PnP head this weekend and then swap it when I do the HG replacement this coming week.
It will be a bitch to tune via email with the Crower S2 turbo cam, PnP head, and SRT-4 injectors, but will be worth it in the end! Plus I'm pretty sure Chris is up to the task!
But more importantly,
It's my 2000th post!!!!! Woohooo!!!!
OK that was fun. Updates maybe tomorrow when I play with my PS pump a little bit.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
What's all this whining about power steering? My Mom used to drive us 3 kids around in the '62 Chevy Station Wagon with no PS (no radio either). Later when I met my wife she was driving a '66 Rambler with no PS but it had an AM radio (no heat though).

Any relation to the Clampetts?

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
Cars that are designed without power steering are easier to drive than cars built with power steering but without the PS pump running. Go out to your civic and turn the key to ON (but dont start the car) and try turning your steering wheel around a few times. Even better coast a PS car down a hill without the engine running and see how tough it is to steer.
Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
^^^ Yep.
Carl. Damn it, I was going to come up with a witty comeback but I've been drinking and eating all day so I'm a little stodgy and not at the top of my game. Crap.
I didn't work on my car at all this weekend. All we did was clean house and had some folks over today. In between all of that I did start re-finishing another valve cover for one of the local 4th gen guys, but it gets a touch of 7th gen with a D17 oil cap! Here:
It's primered and almost ready for paint.
I worked up another custom Hammerite shade (used Smooth Blue and Smooth Silver), and shot it in the old garage. It's interesting how different lighting makes it appear to be different shades. I think I got pretty close to B-47 Superior Blue, the stock Honda Shuttle color the guy has.
Yes this is the same coat, same timeframe, just with the flash on the camera last one was no flash, just natural light.
And natural light again.
It's not done by any means yet, this is just the base coat.
I was also able to fix that other valve cover that I dropped. After stripping it down and going over it with a halogen light (looking for cracks), I had only chipped a piece off the outer lip, which I was able to JB Weld back on. I'll post more pics of it later. It's still hanging (securely!!) in my garage after being primered.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
Hey foos, I got my hands on a good mono block amp. I will test it and take pics for you later. If it works out I will be sending it your way soon. I am also going to throw a little surprise in the box.
Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
No porn Matt! Momma frowns on that stuff...
The ARP, HG, SRT-4, BC, and WG Spring Install Day 1
So here's what I was up to today. Like I said, my ARPs arrived today. Woohoo!! They're all ARPy and stuff. Everyone say "Thank you Uncle Summit!" Go ahead, its' all right. No one on the forum can hear you.
Then I decided it was time to jerk the head.
After that was done, I went out to the garage to work on my car for a bit. I thought about doing a DIY for the HG removal and replacement. I started taking some pictures for it and thinking up captions like this, "Here Feepo, drain some coolant out of your radiator, but make sure it's cool first. Hot car, no touchy:"
"But make sure you take the crayon out of your mouth and then take off the radiator cap so it can drain."
This quickly got old, because pulling a head off a car with a turbo strapped to the nose is a lot more involved than a stocker. I honestly didn't feel like doing an actual DIY with pics and all that. Sorry folks. If anyone has questions on how to do it the easy way, ask away, I just don't want to write up a DIY.
But here's my head right after I scalped it. My Indian name is "Runs With Scissors".
Then I set her to TDC, marked the timing belt and pulley so I don't miss a tooth when putting it back on, and pulled the head off. This time around, I left the IM attached to the head instead of trying to remove it from the head. Much easier this way. You don't have to fuck around with all those stupid IM nuts that you can't reach unless you have hands like a 9-year old and are lying underneath the car. I had to disconnect a few more sensors this way, but it still saved a ton of time and cussin'.
Off comes the head! This looks worse than it actually is.
I didn't drain the coolant from the drain plug on the back of the block so some of it sloshed over into the cylinders. But I could definitely see where the HG had squirted out a little in cylinders 1 and 3. A little carb cleaner, some 600 and 1200 grit sandpaper and the head is decked and ready to go! I vacuumed the cylinders and sluiced out the water jackets with about a gallon of water in case any crud had dropped in there.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
The ARP, HG, SRT-4, BC, and WG Spring Install Day 1 Cont'd.
Time to have a peak at the underside of the head. There's gasket shit all over this thing.
Combustion chambers around the valves look healthy though, if a touch on the lean side. We'll fix that with the official 9 psi tune.
I used a little steel wool this time since I could use my compressor to clear things out afterwards. Much better. Lather, rinse, repeat with the sandpaper and carb cleaner.
Bringin' back the bling!
I'd been working on the car for about three hours at this point so that was good enough for tonight. I'll work on it some more after I get done coaching soccer practice tomorrow.
Here's how it will sit until tomorrow night. I'll put the ARPs in, change out the injectors before I put the head back on, and then wire in the clips. The WG is off already so I just need to swap out the spring and plumb the boost controller in to the vac system. I'll probably be finished Wednesday night. We'll see how much I can get done tomorrow, but there's no point in hurrying.

Re: Fixin' the Blown HG (Pg. 59) - The Speedfoos' Turbo Install Thread!!
Post up on how you installed those arp head studs foos. I need to know for when I do mine
Did you go with oem or aftermarket for head gasket?
Update on mine is not good....
I tore the kit apart to fix loose downpipe bolts w/ high temp tread lock which just burned off
Had the intercooler piping redone, tires on, alignment....
Car still builds boost but is not driving the best...probably head gasket.
Also, another strange thing has happened with my subframe & downpipe clearance. The gap used to be about an inch or so. Now the gap is 1 cm or so. It rubs the fuck outta my frame and is so annoying. The downpipe only bolts on one way, so I don;t know what's going on.
